WASHINGTON - NASA hosts a news briefing at 1 p.m. EST, Wednesday, Dec. 6, to present new science results from the Mars Global Surveyor. The briefing will take place in the NASA Headquarters auditorium located at 300 E Street, S.W. in Washington and carried live on NASA Television and

The agency last week announced the spacecraft's mission may be at its end. Mars Global Surveyor has served the longest and been the most productive of any spacecraft ever sent to the red planet. Data gathered from the mission will continue to be analyzed by scientists.

Panelists include:
- Michael Meyer -- Lead Scientist, Mars Exploration Program, NASA Headquarters, Washington
- Michael Malin -- President and Chief Scientist, Malin Space Science Systems, San Diego, Calif.
- Kenneth Edgett -- Scientist, Malin Space Science Systems
- Philip Christensen -- Professor, Arizona State University, Tempe, Ariz.

Reporters at participating agency field centers will be able to ask questions. For more information about NASA TV streaming video, downlink and schedule information, visit the web at:
Do you really think your a higher form of life? You...With your dripping jaws, and your bloodshot eyes. You...With your varicosities and your vermin for an appendix. You...with your hemroids and assterioids. Often I wake up at night and ponder these matters. And then I feel very strongly that I should talk them over with Brother Theodore...and then, and then I wake up fully and remember that I am Brother Theodore. And my heart aches. And my tears flow. And I see my Aunt Marie floating in the chicken soup...more dead than alive...more naked than not. And oh, now I see a mailman, a mailman giving birth to a dog of all things!

Never a moments peace, never a moments peace...never a moments peace.

This should be interesting, although i wonder what NASA's definition of "significant" is...

I won't accept anything short of a Martian base

They wont admit that.

It will be some crap about the mineral makeup of a big rock.
I hate to break this to you but Tim Mcveigh is not still alive, Hitler was not a British Agent, Wallace Simpson was not a man, and DNA matching Skull and bones members was not found on Mars.

I think they're going to admit that there is liquid water currently on Mars. They may never admit to artifacts or life. But the water thing is big, because up to now they've stuck to Mars having water a long, long time ago that all evaporated or whatever.
Don't believe anything they say.
And at the same time,
Don't believe that they say anything without a reason.

Gee, big surprise, water on mars

Maybe instead of spending all this money on this big revelation, they should have asked the inventor of the Mars Viking two Landers Labeled Release Microbial Life Detector Dr. Gilbert V. Levin who has known about this since 1976. Jeez...

we've known water on mars for like 30 years and they just now decide to announce oh look theres water for sure this time. What they really want is their funding to continue to make it seem like their worth the taxpayers money.

The crisis of modern democracy is a profound one. Free elections, a free press and an independent judiciary mean little when the free market has reduced them to commodities available on sale to the highest bidder.

The era of manufacturing consent has given way to the era of manufacturing news. Soon media newsrooms will drop the pretense, and start hiring theater directors instead of journalists.

The structure of capitalism is flawed. The motor that powers it cannot but vastly increase the disparity between the poor and the rich globally and within countries as well. Parecon is a brave argument for replacing that flawed machine and offers a much needed -- more equitable, democratic, participatory -- alternative economic vision.

Dr. Hermann Oberth who pioneered rocket design for the German Reich during World War II and later advanced rocket technology for the American manned space launches, cryptically stated: "We cannot take the credit for our record advancement in certain scientific fields alone; we have been helped."

When asked by whom, he replied: "The people of other worlds."
