Is Mercury Still Used In Dental Filings In Uk?
Got a bit of toothache so gonna take a trip to the dentist but want to know if they still use mercury in the filings in the UK? Had heard conflicting veiws about this so trying to find out as much as can before I go.

Cheers.

well it's not mercury in the fillings, the fillings that are silver when in the environment of your mouth make mercury.

I found this from the British Dental Health Foundation's website:

The British Dental Health Foundation does not consider that the use of dental amalgam containing mercury poses a significant health risk.

The Foundation advises patients not to have their amalgam fillings replaced unless they are certain they are allergic to dental amalgam, as the process of removal can weaken the teeth.
It also supports the view of the UK Department of Health that it is sensible to minimise health interventions during pregnancy. For this reason, and because mercury can be passed through the placenta and breast milk, it is prudent to avoid placing or removing amalgam fillings during this period.
Recent Scientific Reviews

The UK Committee on Toxicity of Chemicals in Food, Consumer Products and the Environment (COT) reported to the Department of Health in 19971 that the use of dental amalgam is free from risk of systemic toxicity.

Other prominent agencies that have upheld the safety and utility of amalgam in recent years include the World Health Organization and FDI World Dental Federation2, Swedish Medical Research Council3, and the US Food and Drug Administration.

Safety
Amalgam fillings, made up of a mixture of metals and mercury which are chemically bound together, have been in use in dentistry for over 150 years. Research into the safety of such dental amalgams have been carried out for over 100 years and so far no reputable controlled studies have found a connection between amalgam fillings and any medical disorder.

Minute amounts of mercury from dental amalgam do escape from dental amalgam and are absorbed into the body, some of it into the central nervous system. Everyone has a small amount of mercury in their system, measurable through their blood and urine. On average a UK adult absorbs about 9 millionths of a gram of mercury a day from all environmental sources – about a sixth of which comes from amalgam fillings.
Most people with dental amalgam fillings containing mercury show less than 5 micrograms per litre of urine. Nearly all dentists have levels below 10 micrograms per litre. Compared with this, the maximum permitted level of exposure to mercury for industrial workers in the US will produce levels around 135 micrograms per litre, which is still considered safe by medical authorities.

Confirmed cases of allergic reaction to amalgam are extremely rare – fewer than 100 cases have been reported worldwide6. This is an extremely small number in relation to the many thousands of millions of amalgam fillings that have been provided to patients since the material was developed.
None of the claims linking dental amalgam to illnesses such as Alzheimer’s disease, Autism, Muscular Dystrophy and Parkinson’s disease have been substantiated. Leading health organisations in these fields, have disputed such claims, and these conditions have not been associated with higher, occupational, levels of exposure to mercury.

However, the Foundation’s considers that, if amalgam were to be presented as a new material today, it would not be approved by any food and drug administration, on the precautionary principle.

I think the final part is the scary bit, but it seems like the risks are extremely minimal. The choice, as they say, is yours. Hope your tooth isn't hurting too much!!!

Yes it is still in use.

MERCURY = Very toxic element

Where shall we put it?
How about directly in peoples mouths and also in vaccinations (see Thimerosal)

Research how mercury got into amalgam, and how even 150 years ago it was known to be toxic.
Just because your local dentist says its ok dont mean it is, its just another example of concensus reality (ie Everyone knows its ok) ....but your dentist is just repeating what theyve been told by "official" sources.

when dentists dispose of mercury amalgam waste, it is classed as hazardous waste and has special protocols, protective clothing etc. !

I don't know exactly how long we've known that mercury is poison, but 150 years sounds like the minimum, I mean you'd figure the Chinese would have known 2000+ years ago after people seemed to die unexpectedly from prolonged use of the pills

anyway, here's Wiki:

In 1843, The American Society of Dental Surgeons, concerned about mercury poisoning, required its members to sign a pledge that they would not use amalgam. In 1859, The American Dental Association was formed by dentists who believed amalgam was "safe and effective." The ADA "continues to believe that amalgam is a valuable, viable and safe choice for dental patients," as written in their statement on dental amalgam.[5] In 1993, the United States Public Health Service reported that "amalgam fillings release small amounts of mercury vapor," but in such a small amount that it "has not been shown to cause any … adverse health effects." This position is not shared by all governments and there is an ongoing dental amalgam controversy. A recent review by an FDA appointed advisory panel, the panelists, in a 13-7 vote, rejected the current FDA report on amalgam safety stating the report's conclusions weren't reasonable, given the quantity and quality of information currently available. Panelists said remaining uncertainties about the risk of so-called silver fillings demanded further research, in particular, on the effects of mercury-laden fillings on children and the fetuses of pregnant women with fillings and the release of mercury vapor on insertion and removal of mercury fillings.[6][7]
I don't see how when these people get on tv and talk like this that they don't just bust out laughing. I sure would, &phhheeh, sorry folks, haha, I can't read this anymore. Truth is, we're scamming the holy shit out of all of you. We're large, and in charge. Illuminati is in the hizzouse! East Sah-eeeed!& -Henry

Does anyone know people that have been hurt by these fillings ?

I have a great grandma who is over 100, though now in a wheelchair after breaking her hip her mind is fine and so are her children and grandchildren. I'm not so sure that these filling are such a treat.
The new white ones which look so much better, (why I like them) don't last they fall out and need to be replaced. I guess thats good for the dentist.

white fillings epoxy or more expensive ones porcelane some european countries have paid for removal for the entire population . safe levels for mercury have been adjusted several orders of magnitude lower over the last 50 years .mercury is the dumming special .. if you think you are susceptable there is a test called melissa 6 to test pre disposition to mercury poisoning as one individual may have a reaction threshold at one thousanth that of another. combined with lead and a few other heavies ////\\\\! chelation or a homeopathic solution.. an l.i.s. or vega type test is money well spent . toxicoligist not doctor!!!!people snipped of 20 iq points usually tell you how fine they are . self assesment of the most suttle long term brain damage is not accurate.!!! get the stuff out of your mouth now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
