Us Considers Navy Buildup In Mideast

Quote:WASHINGTON - The Pentagon is considering a buildup of Navy forces in the Persian Gulf as a show of force against Iran, a senior defense official said Tuesday.

Speaking on condition of anonymity because the idea has not been approved, the official said one proposal is to send a second aircraft carrier to the region amid increasing tensions with Iran, blamed for encouraging sectarian violence in neighboring Iraq as well as allegedly pursuing a nuclear weapons program.

The United States and its European allies are seeking sanctions against Iran because of its refusal to stop uranium enrichment, a technology that can be used to produce nuclear fuel for civilian purposes or fuel for a nuclear bomb.

In Tehran, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said Tuesday that U.N. sanctions would not stop Iran from pursuing its uranium enrichment program, which he has said is for peaceful development of energy.

Bush administration officials have repeatedly declined to rule out the use of force against Iran, though they have also said their first choice is to rely on diplomacy.

In New York, U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan said military action against Iran would be "rather unwise and disastrous." Annan, who is leaving his job Dec. 31, made the comment to reporters at a news conference as the Security Council debated a resolution that would impose sanctions on Tehran.

The idea of building up U.S. Navy forces has been discussed over some time and it's unclear when a decision will be made, the defense official said.

The aircraft carrier USS Dwight D. Eisenhower is already in the region. It left the United States in late September with four other Norfolk-based ships and submarines carrying 6,500 sailors.

The flotilla headed to the Mediterranean Sea and eventually went to relieve the Norfolk-based aircraft carrier USS Enterprise strike group, which was in the region supporting operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Also, the U.S. in late October led a naval training exercise aimed at blocking smuggling of nuclear weapons in the Persian Gulf.

The six-nation maneuvers off the coast of Iran were the first of their kind since North Korea's Oct. 9 nuclear test and U.N. sanctions that called on the international community to conduct searches at sea to ensure the reclusive communist nation is not secretly expanding its nuclear program.

considers it, hell. i thought the US already a navy buildup in the middle east. the arabian sea, the persian gulf and red sea have had navy there since before the iraq invasion and i've heard that US navy was also moving in to the mediterranean sea in preparation for an attack on iran.

What a feckin' joke. Now the Pentagon is officially letting the public know that they *might* go ahead and do something that already did months ago. What next, are they going to tell us that they are considering attacking Iraq and grabbing Saddam?

they "go public" with information only to psychologically prepare the masses to accept it. information is only released to the mainstream media when it works in favor of the political agendas, otherwise, it's classified.

edit:
they've been preparing americans to support a war against iran for a couple months now and the propaganda just gets heavier and heavier lately. we predict that a false flag terror operation will occur in israel and be blamed on iran. this will invoke israel to declair war on iran and the USA will be there in support of israel. even together the two nations can hardly muster the troops to fight iran so some people are suggesting that this might break the nuclear seal. unlike iraq, you can't just fly over iran and bomb them with planes, iran has better anti-air defenses than iraq. also, american troops must stay in iraq. that's their 'policy'. withdrawl from iraq is not happening so where is the army going to come from to attack iran?

this might also mark the beginning of martial law in america and the draft. we'll see ...

Isn't this going to be 2007's war? I mean the US wants to increase its military as its been mouthing off about recently in the media (conscription next?) to fuel its new assault. We've just lost the Turkmenistan leader, so Iran is now almost entirely surrounded by US landing pads and ops, its all going to kick off and it will be Iran's fault of course, doesn't matter that they are being sieged slowly.

Of course it may all ultimately backfire.

What if Iran made a public live UN emergency broadcast expressing concern they would be invaded and seeking help. What if Iran has hooked up with China, Korea and Russia to defend it? Is it possible that WW3 could be started from this?

I know how this will be played out in the media, I've seen it already, people literally think Iran is a threat to them, like thousands of miles away. I ask these people who Iran has invaded - yet they forget the US is invading everyone, who is the agressor now? The key is getting people to actually think instead of follow blind.
