Although this footage is from 1986 I think it has relevance for today, spookily.

It's really funny, Zappa takes it to the suits and I love him all the more for it.

He even mentions the Hell Fire club, lol.;q=frank+zappa

Thanks for that link, Dr. Druid.
I've always had immense respect for Frank on many levels..not to mention the people he associates with...Vai, Belew, etc.

I'll have to watch this one in a bit.

EDIT: This is great! Lofton from the Post can't even stay on topic and is consistently slanting questions. As usual with attackers with no grounds to stand on, he resorts to personal attacks and slander. The only person with clue as to the real state of the nation, happens to be Frank.

They even bring up the US turning into a totalitarian state and the Holocaust.

Excellent find DD.

This has been on here before I think it was on the tracker. I love Zappa. I grew up on his music. He started political music in America according to him. I mostly agree.

Strange man Zappa. Had a Penchant for taking a shit onstage for a while.
I hate to break this to you but Tim Mcveigh is not still alive, Hitler was not a British Agent, Wallace Simpson was not a man, and DNA matching Skull and bones members was not found on Mars.

And why the hell not? Have you been to the Tate Modern recently?

He was way ahead of his time

Claim: Frank Zappa once won a "gross-out contest" by eating excrement on stage.

Status: False.

Example: [Zappa, 1989]

I was in a London club called the Speak Easy in 1967 or '68. A member of a group called the Flock, recording for Columbia at the time, came over to me and said:

"You're fantastic. When I heard about you eating that shit on stage, I thought, 'That guy is way, way out there.'"

I said, "I never ate shit on stage." He looked really depressed -- like I had just broken his heart.

Zappa's contest opponent varies, with the names Captain Beefheart and Alice Cooper being frequently mentioned.

The most common version of this legend has the challenger defecating on stage, with Zappa winning the title by eating the results. Some versions describe Zappa's opponent as performing a less scatalogical act, and Zappa wins merely by defecating in front of the audience.

A variety of actions (other than defecating) are ascribed to the first contestant, with acts of animal cruelty (such as stepping on baby chickens or strangling a puppy) being common.

Origins: This legend originated in the mid-1960s, no doubt inspired by the eccentricities of Frank Zappa's music and appearance. As Zappa himself wrote, however:

For the record, folks: I never took a shit on stage, and the closest I ever came to eating shit anywhere was at a Holiday Inn buffet in Fayetteville, North Carolina, in 1973.

Youtube has so much Zappa stuff it's crazy. There's some really good interviews. I keep meaning to go through and DL all the stuff I want.

Here's his second crossfire interview in 1987
Here's him in senate hearings, 4 parts to that you'll see them in the sidebar.
CBS morning news in 1985
This is an old interview from 1974 in europe somewhere I enjoyed.
Sorry to spam it up but this is a good interview from 1973

Great video. You all seen these Zappa quotes before. The first one here is my favorite. Talk about cutting through to the heart of the matter. Actually, the second one I like too.

"The illusion of freedom will continue as long as it's profitable to continue the illusion. At the point where the illusion becomes too expensive to maintain, they will just take down the scenery, they will pull back the curtains, they will move the tables and chairs out of the way, and you will see the brick wall at the back of the theatre."

"Communism doesn't work because people like to own stuff."

"Government is the Entertainment Division of the military-industrial complex."

"Tobacco is my favorite vegetable."

"It pays to make the U.S. school system a crock of shit because the dumber the people are that come out, the easier it is to draft them, make them into docile consumers, or, you know, mongo employees. There are plenty of yuppies out there with absolutely nothing upstairs. Graduate airheads with PhDs and everything but they don't know anything. And what do they listen to? Certainly not my records."

"All the good music has already been written by people with wigs and stuff."

"Without music to decorate it, time is just a bunch of boring production deadlines or dates by which bills must be paid."

"Is that a real poncho or a Sears poncho?"

"I have four children, and I want them to grow up in a country with a WORKING first amendment."

"The word (revolution) seems to conjure up images of sort of a modern day version of peasants going in to the street with their pitchforks. They go after the bad guy who lives in a big house someplace on the hill, and we're gonna give it to the workers, ya know. That's not the kind of revolution I had in mind. Well I thought that it might be nice if it was handled in a more modern and efficient way, without people getting slaughtered in the street... It's a matter of infiltration."

"The more boring a child is, the more the parents, when showing off the child, receive adulation for being good parents-- because they have a tame child-creature in their house." lol, child-creature.

Great post Henry I love some of those quotes especially the first and the last ones.
I may steal that first one for my sig or just add it to Bob's wisdom.

I totally grew up on Zappa and always looked up to him. My parents went to the same high school as him and had most of his music on vinyl. I remember looking at that parody Sgt. Peppers cover he had with the mothers "We're only in it for the money" when I was real young.

Here is a favourite song of mine from Franks album Broadway The Hard Way. The album was during the 88 tour and he was taking voter registration on the road trying to get the young people to participate.

It's hard to pick a favourite album or song of his but this album is pretty cool in its talking about AIDS and Secret Government amongst all his other skewerings. Sting also appears on the the album and they do Murder By Numbers.

-Jesus Thinks You're A Jerk-

Yes, friends . . . Pass the plate around, friends . . . Join us, friends . . .

There's an ugly little weasel 'bout three-foot nine
Face puffed up from cryin' 'n lyin'
'Cause her sweet little hubby's
Suckin' prong part time
(In the name of The Lord)

Get a clue, little shrew
Oh yeah, oh yeah
Jesus thinks you're a jerk
Would he really choose Tammy to do His Work? Unh-unh

(Yes, friends . . . )

Robertson says that he's The One
Oh he sure is, if Armageddon
Is your idea of family fun,
An' he's got some planned for you!
(Now, tell me that ain't true)

Give me that old time religion!

Now, what if Jimbo's slightly gay,
Will Pat let Jimbo get away?
Everything we've heard him say
Indicates that Jim must pay,
(And it just might hurt a bit) Just a bit!
But keep that money rollin' in,
'Cause Pat and naughty Jimbo
Can't get enough of it (let's dance!)

Perhaps it's their idea
Of an Affirmative Action Plan
To give White Trash a 'special break';
Well, they took those Jeezo-bucks and ran
To the bank! To the bank! To the bank! To the bank!
And every night we can hear them thank
Their Buddy, up above
For sending down his love
(While you all smell the glove)

Henry Cisneros, ladies and gentlemen!

Jim and Pat should take a pole
(Right up each saintly glory-hole),
With tar and feathers too --
Just like they'd love to do to you

('Cause they think you are bad --
Yes, they do!
And they are very mad)

'Cause some folks don't want prayer in school!

(We'd need an ark to survive the drool
Of Micro-publicans, raised on hate,
And 'Jimbo-Jumbo' when they graduate)

Convinced they are 'The Chosen Ones' --
And all their parents carry guns,
(Hey, look! Godzilla!)
And hold them cards in the N.R.A.
(Ah, hellfire, Melvin, hey hee!)
(With their fingers on the trigger
("It's hot.")
When they kneel and pray)
("I mean that . . . ")

With a Ku-Klux muu-muu
In the back of the truck,
If you ain't Born Again,
They wanna mess you up, screamin':
"No abortion, no-siree!"
"Life's too precious, can't you see!"
(What's that hangin' from a neighbor's tree?
Why, it looks like 'colored folks' to me --
Would THEY do THAT . . .
They've been doin' it for years!

And now, ladies and gentlemen, the dynamic Eric Buxton

Imagine if you will,
A multi-millionaire TV Evangelist,
Saved from Korean Combat duty by his father, a U.S. Senator

Studied law --
But is not qualified to practice it

Father of a "love child"
Who, in adulthood, hosts the remnants
Of papa's religious propaganda program

Claims not to be a "Faith Healer,"
But has, in the past,
Dealt sternly with everything from hemorrhoids to hurricanes

Involved with funding for an 'undeclared war' in Central America
Claiming Ronald Reagan and Oliver North as close friends

Involved in suspicous 'tax-avoidance schemes',
(Under investigation for 16 months by the I.R.S.)

Claims to be a MAN OF GOD;
Currently seeking the United States Presidency,
Hoping we will all follow him into --
The Twilight Zone

But, hey! What if Pat gets in the White House,
(No fuckin' way, Ike,
You know what I mean)
The rights of 'certain people' disappear

Now, wouldn't that sort of qualify
As an American Tragedy?
(Especially if they cover it up, sayin'
"Jesus told it to me!")
(I mean vapor tight, we're like this, okay?
I mean that)
I hope we never see that day,
(I mean that. Right here. It's hot. It's hot.)
In The Land of The Free --
Or someday will we?
Will we?

And if you don't know by now,
The truth of what I'm tellin' you,
Then, surely I have failed somehow --
Surely I have failed somehow
Surely I have failed somehow

And Jesus will think I'm a jerk, just like you --
If you let those TV Preachers
Make a monkey out of you!

I said:
"Jesus will think you're a jerk"
And it would be true!

There's an old rugged cross
In the land of the Stainless Maiden --
It's just burnin' on the lawn
But this person looks like Tom Braden!

Jim and Tammy!
Oh, baby!
You gotta go!
You really got to go!
Jim and Tammy got to go

FZ: Ladies and gentlemen, this is intermission. Get your butt out there and register to vote! Would you please? See you in a half an hour!

Hope you enjoyed,
