10 False Flags Operations That Shaped Our World
This is not researched very well.

Quote:6. The Myth of Pearl Harbour

On January 27, 1941, Joseph C. Grew, the U.S. ambassador to Japan, wired Washington that he'd learned of the surprise attack Japan was preparing for Pearl Harbour.

From Viktor Sorge, an ethnic German living in Ukraine who was "liberated" by the Germans. Sorge worked at the Reich Embassy in Toyko and passed information to Stalin and FDR. Because Stalin knew the Japanese were attacking the US, he knew Japan would not make further advances in Manchuria and was able to shift divisions protecting Manchuria to Stalingrad to encircle and force the surrender of Paulus' 6th Army (plus the Italian, Hungarian and Romanian armies there as well). The defeat at Stalingrad was the turning point in the war.

Quote:Despite the myth that the strike force maintained strict radio silence, US Naval intelligence intercepted and translated many dispatches. And, there was no shortage of dispatches: Tokyo sent over 1000 transmissions to the attack fleet before it reached Hawaii.

The writer is obviously not familiar with military operations. The strike force did maintain strict radio silence, among themselves, but the flag ships did not. The number of messages is neither unreasonable nor extraordinary. The vast majority of messages were dummy transmissions designed to give the illusion of normal peace-time naval operations. The sudden absence of radio transmissions or an unusual reduction in volume is an intelligence indicator suggesting is amiss.

Quote:Even on the night before the attack, US intelligence decoded a message pointing to Sunday morning as a deadline for some kind of Japanese action.

Which is meaningless. Sorge got the time of departure wrong because he believed another Japanese ship was enroute to the marshalling point. The result was that the US anticipated the arrival of the Japanese fleet in striking range on Tuesday, December 9, 1941.

Quote:Although many ships were damaged at Pearl Harbour, they were all old and slow.

Yeah, and? That was a 1941 blue-water fleet, not a 2001 blue-water fleet. Big freaking difference, mostly in technology and mission orientation.

Old? I guess the US should just scuttle the USS Roosevelt, USS Kennedy, USS Eisenhower, USS Carl Vinson, and USS Nimitz since they're more than 20 years old.

Quote:The main targets of the Japanese attack fleet were the Pacific Fleet's aircraft carriers, but Roosevelt made sure these were safe from the attack: in November, at about the same time as the Japanese attack fleet left Japan, Roosevelt sent the Lexington and Enterprise out to sea. Meanwhile, the Saratoga was in San Diego.

Of course he did. All ground based aircraft were fueled, loaded with ammo, and parked wingtip-to-wingtip for fast take-off. A radar unit was also moved to an outlying island. One of three squadrons of B-17s had already arrived and the second squadron of B-17s was enroute to to Pearl Harbor on the day of the attack. It was FDR's intent to lure the Japanese into Pearl Harbor and ambush them. The Japanese attack aircraft would have been discovered by radar and US aircraft sent out to destroy them. The B-17s and additional fighter aircraft would have followed the survivors back to their carriers and destroyed them. Once the position of the Japanese fleet was known, the Enterprise and it's group would give chase and the Lexington and it's group would lie in wait at Midway to finish off the Japanese fleet. It was a good plan, but the US didn't anticipate the Japanese fleet arriving 36 to 48 hours too early.
