Marijuana + Meditation
I have developed a method of meditating your way to being more stoned than you've ever been before. For a quick establishment of setting, I work as a mechanic in a friend-of-family operated business fairly sporadically. I put in 35+ hrs of work a week but I may do it in three twelve hour days, you dig? Meanwhile my wife is at work essentially from 12:30p - 10:00p every weekday. So in times where I find myself left to my own impulses for an extended amount of time I tend to spend it doing tai chi, yoga and meditating. (Or on this forum :ouch:) Also, I'm smoking pot most of the time, which many people argue is detrimental to these practices but I whole-heartedly disagree. Insomuch that I have invented a meditative method of smoking marijuana.

We all know mouth-breathing is bad. It's considered bad manners of course, but there is more to it than that. In traditional Indian medicine, and by extension yoga, there is a belief in prana, or vital life energy (just as in traditional Chinese medicine, and by extension some martial arts, there is a belief in chi). Pranayama is the practice of controlling or cultivating prana. Well according to yogic thinking, mouth-breathing is not beneficial to the cultivation of prana.

Therefore, by extension, smoking something by taking a drag is the same as mouth-breathing. There is no vital life energy included with a traditional hit of a joint. Therefore, my method of smoking meditatively is by filling my mouth with a large hit of smoke and then slowly inhaling this through my nostrils (a french inhale as it is commonly called) but with the long continuous yogic breath from the diaphragm. Thus filling my lungs slowly with an enormous hit, then holding it for quite some time as in normal meditative breath, then exhaling slowly. This is simply normal meditation with a joint mixed in.

By the time someone has finished his joint, he will have had a fifteen minute long meditation session, coming out of it feeling completely at ease and relaxed, and john blazed out of his mind. This, I believe, is the best way for someone to smoke pot if by themselves and the way this beautiful plant was always meant to be used. Give it a try sometime.

Peace and happy spiritual journeys.

I think marijuana is a healthy and natural medicine/meditative aid/party, etc.
I have done not much meditation but have always had an interest in martial arts, chi, Qi Gong....and I like your experiments. I've done some messing around with different methods of inhalation but never in conjunction with meditation. I've felt like I've been in meditation just from being high but that sounds really interesting combining the two as a goal instead if it just being accidental.

Something else to think about would be how the Rastas smoke. They don't inhale the smoke at all. They just fill their mouths with smoke and exhale slowly through their nostrils after reciting "Jah Rastafari". The membranes in your sinuses will absorb THC in addition to your lungs. So like you said, inhaling through your nose into your lungs gets you pretty damn high. LOL

Yeah but those rastas have like sixteen pounds of dozier and they don't care if they get the most out of each doobie like me

In all seriousness though you will never feel as aware of your high as you will after trying this. I never thought much about doing yoga until I met my wife, who does it all the time. Feeling like I was getting lazy and because she could bring a friend for free I started going to her yoga classes and it was one of the best things I ever did for myself.

I was never as flexible and proficient in martial arts, though tai chi definitely helped. Yoga made me much faster and gave me more endurance when sparring. Not only that, the meditation gives you an awareness of your body that is indescribable. Not that its incredibly powerful or any of that junk, it's like this: When you have never exercised, when you were young (or now if your a bloody wanker) you couldn't flex your chest at will. It was difficult to flex your pecs at first. But as you exercised them more and your brain became more aware of them, you became able to flex your pecs at will, at any time, even one at a time perhaps. This is because you taught your brain to be aware of it. Meditiation teaches your brain to be aware of things you've never paid attention to. The bones, the tendons, the guts, the spine, and attempt to build an awareness of them. The ultimate goal being aware of everything, including the natural energy pathways of the body.

If you are smoking weed while concentrating on this concept, you become aware of its subtle effects on all the different aspects of your body. It becomes a completely different experience. And meditation puts you at ease and centers your mind on the moment rather than all your concerns and stress. Coupled with smoking a fatty you're just there man, cloud 9.

Peace.

Edit: Oh yeah, forgot to mention, haha, it is disputed by some people but it is widely believed that Bodhidharma visited the Shaolin temple and spoke with the monks there. Many of the Shaolin masters complained the students were not strong enough to endure hours of sitting and standing meditation. So it was Bodhidharma who taught the Shaolin yoga practices to give them strength. Combined with the martial arts the Shaolin practiced to protect themselves from thieves in the Shaolin forest, the legendary Shaolin Kung Fu was born. Or so the legend goes...

I would think that the real Rastas in Jamacia have the super duper just-get-near-it-and-get-high weed. Quality makes a difference for sure.
I shall have to try it sometime.

The most interesting Art to me has been Shaolin Kung Fu. I personally find that story to be the most likely. You can see the strong influence of Yoga into Chinese Wu Shu (martial arts) as a whole and to a greater degree in Tai Chi and Qi Gong. So much knowledge and so little time.....
