Disappearing bee mystery solved?
A parasite common in Asian bees has spread to Europe and the Americas and is behind the mass disappearance of honeybees in many countries, says a Spanish scientist who has been studying the phenomenon for years.

The culprit is a microscopic parasite called nosema ceranae said Mariano Higes, who leads a team of researchers at a government-funded apiculture centre in Guadalajara, the province east of Madrid that is the heartland of Spain's honey industry.

He and his colleagues have analyzed thousands of samples from stricken hives in many countries.

"We started in 2000 with the hypothesis that it was pesticides, but soon ruled it out," he told Reuters in an interview on Wednesday.

Pesticide traces were present only in a tiny proportion of samples and bee colonies were also dying in areas many miles from cultivated land, he said.

They then ruled out the varroa mite, which is easy to see and which was not present in most of the affected hives.

For a long time Higes and his colleagues thought a parasite called nosema apis, common in wet weather, was killing the bees.

Interesting article and interesting news, however I'm not convinced these parasites form the whole story. For instance, what is the cause of this parasite-epidemic?

Does the scientist give any ideas how this parasite gets around? Is it on the flowers? I ask because I'm not familiar with alot of inter-hive bee mingling.

its like the little known parasite currently (past 10 years) infecting pine trees in Canada/US, it kills the trees.

There is a case to be made that those bugs were brought in as a form of ecnomic warfare, IMO. They broke out in several areas at once accross BC. Maybe this is simillar in scope....

exactly. It doesn't matter what parasite/bacteria/virus is involved, what matters is why those parasite/bacteria/virus are appearing.

It's the same with the sick trees. Scientists say it's because of a certain beetle, and they are right, but the real question is why do these beetles appear. Nature dissolves bio-material when this organism has ended it's purpose.

Therefore, all those "mysterious" diseases that appeared in the last decades, are only natural. That implies that those species who suffer from these diseases are not treated in a natural way. Nature considers them as dead, and disintegrates them.

So the real culprit is still the electromagnetic pollution, the genetically altered crops, the industrialisation of agriculture. There are places where these diseases do not occur, especially in remote areas far away from "industrial" agriculture. But the scientists do not want this solution, they want to kill the parasite and continue the industrial, mechanical way of food production.

Luckily there is a growing (at least I hope they are growing) number of people who know that all and use their instinct.

EDIT: there has been a great loss in the apple harvest this year in Switzerland because of a certain disease. On television, I have seen many farmers complaining and almost crying, begging for antibiotics which are forbidden in Switzerland. But what did I see in the background? Huge monocultures of low-stem apple trees.

They could get rid of this problem if they would go back to the original form of apple tree. It's more difficult to collect the harvest, that's right, but as long as the unemployment rate is above 0%, this shouldn't be a problem in theory.

Actually, such diseases are only signs from nature. Nature says: "You do not treat me well, therefore you won't harvest my fruit." Very simple.
I am my savior
