I would say Putins awarding the shepard is of merit. I can see where your coming from Serial Explain. I havent read all the posts....
Just want to add., Bush awarded William Rordriguez with lots of medals until he spoke up about the explosions he heard and then he was set on by Bushes henchmen.
In todays political old grey men in suits, Putin deserves a pat on the back.

Yes, I agree. I just sense that the man has a goodness about him that is sincere and that he is sane.

I say nyet. Komrade Putin would not have been head of the Komityet Gosudarstvyennoy Bezopasnosti if he were a caring compassionate nice guy.

I think he's cold, calculating and far more politically astute than his washington counterpart.

In light of that Nicholas688, it would only make sense that they had a private army; i.e., security force, to guard those types of resources. I am still not seeing why that is something illogical.

My late ex-father-in-law was a VP of a company that was setting up international offices in the late 70's. He traveled to USSR, Brazil, Australia as part of the US team that went in to other countries to help them establish "the corporation". Corporations were expanding internationally going back that far; i'm sure even further back.

All I am saying is that Putin has had to wear many hats in his lifetime, but I still think at heart he is a good guy.

He reminds me of the saying "To those much has been given, much is expected". I think he rises to meet occasions in a manner that a large percentage of people respect.

I used to live within a comfortable drive from this place:

http://www.stannestpat.org/icons.htm

It was an awesome experience to walk up among the pine trees and go into the various rustic buildings that constituted the icon exhibit. (It was back in the 1980s the last time I was there. The exhibit was rather large as I remember) But, I am not finding any current photographs online of the exhibit in its entirety.
It was all set on this beautiful hillside. So, you were very much out amongst nature as you traversed through the various wooden structures that housed all the icons. It was always a very powerful and moving experience. (I'm such an emo-sponge type with historical artifacts).

Perhaps, I understand that if this element is an important part of Putin's past that re-reading the wiki on him might afford us all important insight into what makes this man tick.

Also, if you ever get the chance to see the exhibit, I thought it was an amazing place to see (as it was in the 1980s when I was last there).

Because, noone has proven otherwise. Hmm... Calling me pathetic says nothing about why I should think otherwise. At this point in his life he may very well be a good person.

Do you understand that you have to be a certain age to be president of some countries? Do you understand why it is that way?

Well I most certainly hope he likes little boys and sheep. I would not hold him in the same high regard if he did not like them both - A LOT. And I'm sure he treats little boys and sheep very well and they are happy too.

You are right, SE, I stand corrected. It's not our place to judge anyone or make assumptions. It's been so ingrained in my mind that so many politicians are pedophiles that it isn't fair to throw Putin into the mix without evidence. I happen to like many of the things the guy has done, and when he refers to the Bush regime as the Fourth Reich, the man shows me he has some insight.

I think poor Litvinenko may have a different view though. They could have killed him without making him go through such a painful and excruciating death. That's where my respect for Putin comes to an end.

The same way you shouldn't judge him about being a pedophile is the same way you don't judge him about killing Liventko. I personally think he had nothing to do with it. But God knows. C'mon -- Putin didn't have to do that, it was a PICTURE FRAME.
