Doomsday Seed Vault

'Doomsday Seed Vault

The seed bank is being built inside a mountain on Spitsbergen Island near the small village of Longyearbyen. It’s almost ready for ‘business’ according to their releases. The bank will have dual blast-proof doors with motion sensors, two airlocks, and walls of steel-reinforced concrete one meter thick. It will contain up to three million different varieties of seeds from the entire world, ‘so that crop diversity can be conserved for the future,’ according to the Norwegian government. Seeds will be specially wrapped to exclude moisture. There will be no full-time staff, but the vault's relative inaccessibility will facilitate monitoring any possible human activity.

Did we miss something here? Their press release stated, ‘so that crop diversity can be conserved for the future.’ What future do the seed bank’s sponsors foresee, that would threaten the global availability of current seeds, almost all of which are already well protected in designated seed banks around the world?'

Is the future possible at all with GMO? If Monsanto tries to make and sell Terminator seeds that means they will have power to decide when to switch off supply of it. Then there will be hunger ... and we may end up with 700 million people that would use Svalbard bank to grow again normal food

A survivalist plan for the elite.

Keeping all the good seeds form themselves.

All in answer to the question:
If you were only only person left on earth after global catastrophe, where would you get seeds?

I had a question like that Optics class.
I mean it was posed to the class and no one had a clue.

How would you make white paint?

Ans: Mix two substances of nearly equal index of refractions.

They just might find that the seeds are useless in the environment they are introduced after a catastrophy, particularly if it's been a while.

Plants must adapt too.

i remember reading about plant dna responding to sound frequency which produced a mimic effect to that of sunlight. ie you can grow plants in the dark in theory. geodesic domes too etc. off worls orbiting bio spheres who knows...

I think they will have factored seed mortality and hostile environs into the doomsday seed viability equation
