Buy Your Very Own Rocket Pack for $100K

We're glad to see someone is taking rocket packs seriously because, let's face it - who wouldn't love to have one? But we've got to wonder who's going to shell out $100,000 for a backpack rocket that provides just 75 seconds of flight time.

Nevertheless, Thunderbolt Aerosystems is releasing Thunderpack, a "personal propulsion system" it says provides a 300 percent improvement in flight time over other rocket packs.

There are other rocket packs? Yes, actually.

According to the company's entertaining press release, Thunderpack "represents more than a decade’s worth of effort to apply modern rocket fuels and propulsion technologies to create a practical and economical personal air vehicle."

More details and video after the jump...

The Thunderpack R2G2 uses hydrogen peroxide as an oxidizer and kerosene, diesel or methanol as fuel. Or it can run entirely on high-test peroxide. The company boasts:

With a recent test flight of 37 seconds, and a potential dual-fuel feature capable of flying well more than one minute, Thunderbolt Aerosystems is closer than ever to fielding a rocket belt “for the masses.”

Thunderbolt founder Carmelo “Nino” Amarena sees the Thunderpack being used by firefighters, border patrol agents, and soldiers, and the company's web site also says Thunderpack would make one hell of a PR tool.

You will be undoubtedly the topic of discussion after a rocket-powered human helps carry your message through the air - The ThunderMan. In the quest for attention, you can be one of the few that breaks the noise barrier in the quest – literally.

Thunderbolt is designing a bigger, badder version called Thunderjet, which will use jet-propulsion technology to increase flight time by a factor of 10.

Look! Video! Turn the sound down, though.
In the 60's, people took acid to make the world weird. Now the world is weird and people take Prozac to make it normal.

As a reputed atheist, the reverential nature of his film was surprising, but Pasolini himself said &If you know that I am an unbeliever, then you know me better than I do myself. I may be an unbeliever, but I am an unbeliever who has a nostalgia for a belief.&
