Bug  Cult of Mac: Brand Worship - Apple Triggers 'Religious' Reaction in Fans' Brains
Wasn't sure whether or not to post this in the Technology or the Religion Section.

Quote:Apple triggers 'religious' reaction in fans' brains, report says
By Mark Milian, CNN
May 19, 2011

neuroscientists ran a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) test on an Apple fanatic and discovered that images of the technology company's gadgets lit up the same parts of the brain as images of a deity do for religious people, the report says.

The first episode of the documentary shows Apple employees "whipped up into some sort of crazy, evangelical frenzy" at the recent opening of an Apple store in London.

Observers and Apple critics have long accused fans of the tech company of taking their infatuation to an extreme.

People have gone to great lengths to prove their love of Apple with tattoos, bumper stickers and home shrines to outmoded Mac computers. Apple's cult-like following was highlighted in a 2009 documentary called "Macheads."

There is a film on the tracker posted by barackollama called "Macheads"
http://concen.org/tracker/torrents-details.php?id=22008
It tells the history of Macintosh cultism, how it went from a community of geeks who held meetings to share knowledge and talk about their computers to full blown consumer-slaves who fall into religious trance when any new I-product is released and compulsively gets in line to buy it.
The psychonauts who regularly visits the Psychedelic Salon for their podcast needs has a little treat in the film too, Bruce Damer is apparently a mac-head and is featured in the film showing off his computer-museum.

The power of brands is strong and "macism" is one of the finest examples of what well made PR (propaganda) can accomplish...

As if Apples were not already dominating the youth market with iPods and they are basically a lock in schools now a days, at least in these parts (on a lot of Northern Alberta school boards) with long term contracts. They had an iPad as a highly recommended school supply to take notes and do work in class for my son who is entering Grade 10 this fall.

It seems they are trying to get Apple iMacs into the schools as well with a current promo selling iMacs at a discount to schools. This is nothing new but the price cut will garner market share, customer brand loyalty and is a good PR move to detract from their other policies such as employing a parts manufacturer in Foxconn that uses slave labour and is coming into the US with labour laws to set up shop in tech free trade and labour zones to avoid taxes and pay less than minimum wage as they have done in China, Brazil and Taiwan. They also employ customer support agencies that sue people for complaining and work in line with government and corporate eavesdropping agendas and agencies.

On a side note it seems that India is moving ahead with their social security / Welfare Access / Biometric ID program. It will be multi-modal and they have hired a US consulting firm to recommend deployment solutions and it seems intent on using cell phones as a big part of their enrolment and tracking program. I wonder who might be getting this massive contract?

Not that I'm plugging PCs so much (but PCs are better and cheaper in almost every way) I can't find parts NOT made in China anywhere I've looked to date in the past 5 years.
