One of the Reasons Why The U.S. Presidency is Worth Billions$$$ - macfadden - 12-02-2012

The 2012 presidential election is shaping up to be a multibillion-dollar contest. President Obama's re-election committee is expected to raise at least $1 billion, and Republicans have high hopes that their nominee will reach the 10-figure level as well.

That's brand-new territory for presidential candidates. In 2008, Obama raised nearly $746 million. That was double what George W. Bush raised just four years earlier — which itself was double what Bush raised four years before that.

It's the first time ever that presidential fundraising shot up that fast. And it puts the Obama re-election operation within reach of raising $1 billion: a volume of cash that takes the campaign out of politics-as-usual.

Article II, Section 2, Clause 2 of the United States Constitution, known as the Appointments Clause, empowers the President of the United States to appoint certain public officials with the "advice and consent" of the U.S. Senate. This clause also allows lower-level officials to be appointed without the advice and consent process

[The President] shall nominate, and, by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, shall appoint Ambassadors, other public Ministers and Consuls, Judges of the supreme Court, and all other Officers of the United States, whose Appointments are not herein otherwise provided for, and which shall be established by Law: but the Congress may by Law vest the Appointment of such inferior Officers, as they think proper, in the President alone, in the Courts of Law, or in the Heads of Departments.

RE: One of the Reasons Why The U.S. Presidency is Worth Billions$$$ - FastTadpole - 12-02-2012

Just the fact the president can make Executive Orders is worth enough since he has military might and manipulative coercion over masses of people by wielding his/her position as commander in chief.

But Obama didn't even need an HR or a senate vote to bomb Libya. How was that legitimized by the PR staff anyways?

I hear Obama set some kind of record on drafting EOs, just in his first term.

Now the power all these appointments individually and collectively encompass in a whole array of level of government is an extension on that -- plus a way to keep the presidential seat insulated by anointing an army of hand picked personnel in decision making position that more or less act as his puppet masters' proxy wall.

The executive order and the signing statement are how the executive goes about illegitimately appropriating extralegal powers unto itself and exempting itself from the rule of law.

I think they call that "strategic delegation", it has to do with plausible deniability, scapegoats, and fall guys. It's also a great way to circumvent congressional approval and end run the democratic process, e.g., Obaman directs EPA to decree C02 a "pollutant" and hazzard to human health.

Not to mention the fact that it's almost exclusively industry insiders with huge conflicts of interest who are being appointed to these offices. It's totally inappropriate as well as downright foolish to let the fox guard the hen house. But hey, how else are you going to get regulatory capture and create massive iron triangle complexes(Politico-media, prison industrial, military industrial, big pharma, big agra, etc.) if you can't breed corruption with an incestuous revolving door political system? Wink

The sole executive agreement (2) (3) is another executive power rife for abuse that is highly prized by the prospective buyers and owners of the Office of the President of the United States.
