Forcing Forum Use For Torrents
I find it a bit ironicle [sic] that all these people so worried about the world and supposedly working to change it for the better... the same people who continually complain about the 'sheeple' out there who live in a comfortable reality and are unwilling to wake up and support changes that will make a difference for everyone... are now confronted with a tiny change in their own comfortable reality regarding how the torrents work and how do they react? Violent opposition to any change, without even giving it a chance.

WTF? Where does that leave our movement if our own people can't even stand a small shakeup within their perceieved comfort zone or the slightest change to their 'grazing' pattern?

You've proven yourselves to be the same sheeple you complain about, you just eat different grass, at heart its the same animal. Baaaaah.

Yeah, I see where you are coming form Ctrl. I am astonished by the number of "Ctrl do this...and Ctrl do that" posts whining about the change over. Has everyone forgotten that this is a FREE service? I vaguely recall an old saying my grandmother once told me, it goes something like this "Beggars can't be choosers."

So, lay off the gripping. Get the the new program. Or, as the attention statement on the tracker says, get your torrents somewehre else. Sheesh!

I for one never told Ctrl to do anything, I cited issues with the new system and possible solutions that wouldn't compromise the ideas behind the change.

Second this isn't a free service for those of us who believe in it and donate money (which I have done, and plan to do more in the future). I also support the site through seeding (well over 100% on everything I download) and uploading interesting content.

So I am not a beggar but rather a member of the community who is voicing opinion and free thought on an issue of importance to the community in the "Discussion & Debate" section of the forums! There are no demands being made only well thought out suggestions coming out of a love for this community and the sharing of ideas and thought it has nurtured.

As I said from the start, if the shit isn't broken, don't fix it

Glad while I was away, the tracker is back to normal, just minus the comment section and that's not such a big deal

In case this idea isn't completely out the window... I had a suggestion.

I noticed the tracker feeds started working again. Over on ConRes, Cypher has a FEEDS forum which imports newsfeeds from the guardian.uk and bbc.uk with each news item as an individual post. If you guys did this with the tracker feeds, each upload would automatically be posted to the correct torrent forum. That would save the uploaders the trouble of making their own post and insure that ALL torrent uploads were cross posted without human intervention. If this works, anyone going right to the torrent forum directly would simply see an alternate and up-to-date list of exactly what the tracker shows. The best part is that it'd all be automagical.

Just some food for thought.

Well I agree that "If it aint broke don't try and fix it". If you needed some help ctrl weeding out trolls, moderating etc. you could just have asked - rather that shouting and swearing at us all - you've pretty much now fractured all the users/uploaders of the tracker. Don't really know what to say...

Can you confirm that the download links on the tracker (that have now been re-enabled) are going to say permanently?

Seems like a workable idea "tsoldrin" - I for one am less likely to upload to both tracker and forum now. The simplest solutions are always the best ones.

yeah I agree - I used to come here for knowledge - now its fractured, lots of Ctrls swearing at people and bannings left right and centre.

If running this site makes you so angry Ctrl why dont you hand it over to other people to run? Maybe just set up some moderators who can then give you a holiday from the day to day work?

I think Ctrl has done a great job setting up and running this site. I can understand the anger - but it doesnt need to be such a frustrating thing. I, and I'm sure many others would be more than happy to help. I have donated in the past - and will do again, and I can donate my web programming skills.

there also seems to be this sense of a looming death to Conspiracy Central, that one dayCtrl will say 'thats it, I'm killing this site!'. Enough with the swearing, enough with constant negativity and complaining.

Here's my dream scenario:

- An IPB forum board like this, with the torrents section at the top.
- A couple of stickies so the newbies know exactly what to do, and the leechers know they're not welcome.
- An option to have that cool "midnight" colour scheme used on the tracker.
- A setting so torrent attachments are automatically loaded to the tracker.
- A setting so torrent files cannot be attached unless they are the first posting of a topic in the torrents forum.

Bonus wish list:

- A page similar to the tracker uploader page, that parses the torrent file, copies it to the tracker, and automatically creates a new topic in the torrents forum, with the torrent as an attachment to the post, the one line description as the subject line of the post, and any info file in the torrent as the body of the post.

- Full dislosure of the UL/DL ratios (this is problematic, since it may be inaccurate) with warns and bans if not kept at a decent level.

- An algorithm that compares info hashes to existing ones, so that duplicate torrents are automatically rejected.

- An "Adopt A Torrent" section, so that people can volunteer to automatically reseed torrents of their choice if they are resurrected.

----------------

BTW, I have almost 30 years programming experience, and could do all of the above if sufficiently motivated...

I would agree to that if you meant:

The easiest to use solutions are the best ones.

If an easy to use solution is very powerful because of complex code (that is invisible to the user, and maintained by talented coders) is available, I would prefer that.

BTW, if the above were implemented, ConCen would quickly become a very complete and popular one-stop LIBRARY Of Conspiracy Resources.

Is it just me, or wouldn't that be The Coolest?? I'm getting a chubby just thinking about it...
