This is Oswald Mosley's amazing book My Life (1968) which tells the autobiographical account of his life and ideas as the leader of British Union of Fascists before World war 2. All have heard of Adolf Hitler and his incredible orator's skills to attract the naive masses and lead them into oblivion but few have heard of his british counterpart Oswald Mosley, the pro-Hitler oriented leader of British Fascists. His life story begins with his early days as an airman in the First World War; his attempt as a British Member of Parliament to persuade the government to act decisively against hunger and poverty in the Great Depression; his development of the British fascist ideal through British Union; his campaign for peace with honour and people and Empire intact; his imprisonment without charge or trial in the Second World War; and his emergence as the first political thinker to advocate the Union of Europe (today European Union). British Union of Fascists was opposed to both finance capitalism (the private ownership of industry) and state socialism (the state ownership of industry) and sought to reorganise economic life along the lines of the corporate (fascist) state. However, it was also opposed to the multi-party system of government as voting would be based on an occupational franchise, rather than the present geographical basis, with miners voting for a choice of miner candidates, farm workers voting for agricultural candidates, doctors and nurses voting for medical candidates. It was suggested that this would create a Government of experts elected by experts. It is interesting to note that some of the ideas later used by German Nazis and Italian Fascists were actually originally developed by the British Fascists themselves. One of such ideas was also the creation of European Union. 420 pages. A must read for everyone.
