The Earth is on fire!
Quote:Sometimes a fire just won't go out. Uzbekistan is home to a place called Darvaz, nicknamed by locals "the door to hell." It's a semi-underground gas fire that's been burning nonstop for 35 years. Find out why, and see some close-up pictures of this hellmouth after the jump, plus another fire in Pennsylvania that has also been burning underground for over 30 years. http://io9.com/375485/underground-fires-th...urn-for-decades This totally caught me by surprise. I've never heard of it. Fires burning underground for years at a time? Anyone been to Centralia? They say there's a fire in Australia that's been burning for thousands of years. There's many all over the world the article isn't that in depth. Here's one on the Aussie fire. http://www.smithsonianmag.com/travel/firehole.html It seems like there would be a way to make electricity out of this. I wonder how much pollution a burning vein of coal puts out burning on that kind of scale? Probably more than quite a few coal power plants. &We didn't have education. We had inspiration. If I was educated, I'd be a damn fool.& -Bob Marley

The Earth is on fire!
I suppose mother nature does not care about her 'Carbon Footprint.' Evil Bitch! Send in Al Gore.
MMM Give me the judgment of balanced minds in preference to laws every time. Codes and manuals create patterned behavior. All patterned behavior tends to go unquestioned, gathering destructive momentum.

The Earth is on fire!

China just put one of theirs out a couple of months ago. Quote:The blaze had consumed as much as 12.5 million tonnes of coal as it raged unchecked beneath the surface and spewed out more than 70,000 tonnes of toxic gases annually since the 1950s. And there are a bunch of these around the world, from America to Russia to Australia. The belief in 'coincidence' is the prevalent superstition of the Age of Science. &I don't understand why you're taking such a belligerant tone when you're obviously the ignorant one here. & -triplesix |
