Iran war on agenda of Bush-Olmert talks
Quote:US President George W Bush has discussed the possibility of a military attack against Iran with Israeli officials, the Israeli media claim.

Citing a report by the Army Radio, the Israeli daily Haaretz claimed that the US administration might launch an operation against Iran over the next year.

Officials in the prime minister Ehud Olmert's office said the possibility was discussed behind closed doors between Olmert and Bush in al-Quds.

"In talks with the president of the United States during his visit it was made clear that Bush's statements on the subject of Iran's nuclear program are fully backed in practice," a senior official said.

"The US president's attitude on Iran was well known in Israel, and the expectation had been that he would use forceful language against Tehran, both during talks with Israeli officials and in his address to the Knesset, not only on the nuclear question but on Iran's role in the region," the daily claimed.

The newspaper also revealed some efforts by hawkish Israeli and US officials for the reassessment of a US intelligence report which admitted that Iran's nuclear program was not aimed at military purposes.

The US and Israel accuse Iran of developing weapons of mass destruction and playing a destructive role in the Middle East. Tehran, however, dismisses the allegations as baseless and reiterates its support for security and stability in the region.

On Thursday, Iran's Defense Minister said Israel was too weak to launch an attack on Iran and the Islamic Republic was ready to repel any military invasion.
