A question for the more computer savvy
yea if they want to get in or track you they can, i dont think she/hes worried about government intrusion, more just general intrusion, you get people that hack pcs and steal pictures and documents these days, they make alot of money doing that somtimes...
windows is ultimately exploitable. for real security you need to setup an ipsense computer before your router, which is a freebsd box with a nice web interface |

A question for the more computer savvy
windows is good for games and thats about it. maybe music software but its second to the mac no that front anyway. shit at using firewire. have they fixed that in vista? i dunno. they couldnt run full speed on XP. linux has pretty much beat windows as far as an office/email/webwandering computer. safe as houses. Although if someone (big) targets you, whatever your OS, your best bet is to pull the line:)
noobs and lazy leet do ubuntu:) |

A question for the more computer savvy
Quote:Nobody tells me what OS to run, or what applications to use, or what to use my computer for, so yeah, ultimately I'm in control. If you want to believe someone else controls your computer, fine. Good luck with that...Quote:You need to relax. You're already on the track to completely irrational paranoia. Take a deep breath. You are ultimately in control of your machine, nobody else.

A question for the more computer savvy
I agree with yeti. IF we ALL used windows and internet explorer. the world would be a better place for TPTB.
A "Virus" or anything else malignant has real trouble traversing between computers with programs that dont always agree with each other. If you can exploit outlook its not going to be much use in some obscure program that doesnt deal with macros. Anyone writing malicious software relys on there being common elements in an OS. One of the reasons everyone hates MS windows. Apart from overuse of resources and an inherent need to slow your machine, alot of its inbuilt software can control other inbuilt software. Linux has a different approach to this. Infarct as far as im aware, only MS has this "need" to have programs that bleed into each other like this. Only in windows can you have systems programs with admin access as default. Why does your internet explorer need full access to your system files?? cuz its built into the system. If you think that governments can "at will" hack everyones computer, well they use them too:) If anything WE have the advantage as they will have standardized programs on thier computers. stay diverse, stay safe. |

If you decide to go into Linux, one day, check out server virtualization.

A question for the more computer savvy
Quote:Quote:Linux is fine. Just make sure you know that the software that goes on is OK. Personally I don't give a shit what software I use. At one time I had a dual boot system with Linux and Windows available many moons ago. These days I couldn't give a shit who is listening in. In fact I sometimes write to the NSA without even sending an email or memo. It's easy, you just type 'i'm going to shoot George Bush then blow up the white house' followed by 'only kidding guys, just testing your word recognition software package, i'm not really going to do that cause I'm just a numnut in a far away country'. Works everytime.Quote:Part of the Patriot act was for all major software manufacturers, cellular phone providers and communication equipment providers to allow backdoor entry of their systems by Federal or government agencies at their own discretion. Anyone who owns software produced after mid 2002 by any major software manufacturer is compromised - period. Anyone owning a cellular phone is compromised - period. Anyone using other forms of communication equipment such as satalite phones or sat nav is compromised - period. Anyone who uses a computer and thinks they have the best firewall, the best security and thinks they are water tight is in cloud cuckoo land. Any federal agent or Government official in the case of the UK is allowed under legislation following 911, to remotely walk right into your PC and piss all over it if they so wish. Wake up.What about linux? lol:Pi do that too, for more than a decade by now! The only thing i do care about being watched is that it consumes precious resources of my comp system. If you want to disguise what you do think, pretend you do THINK ALL THATS POSSIBLE TO THINK! :) |
