Quote:When I ran Gutsy, it would mount NTFS partitions r/w with no problems. I set it up to auto mount from the first install.
After doing a fresh install of Hardy and doing the same selections for auto mount of 2 NTFS drives /dev/media, both drives were wiped clean of ALL data. As it stands, the Hardy (ultimate Edition) will manual mount NTFS drives but not auto. I haven't tried to mess with it recently for fear of losing all data again...
...and I still can't get ATI drivers working properly to get Compiz working.
Which video card do you have again?

VisonTek (ATI) HD 2400 Pro AGP

Thanks for the links. I've tried a good portion of those edits without success. I'll have to go and make sure when I get some time to mess with it.
I suspect the problem of mine lies in the lack of support from ATI for an AGP in that series. The actual ATI cards of that series are PCI or PCIe. Other companies like VisonTek threw on the AGP interface chip and that, I suspect, is the reason for not being able to use the proprietary ATI Linux drivers for my card. In Winblows, I had to use Omega drivers, ATITool and ATI Tray Tools to get the same functionality as ATI Catalyst.

I'll tell ya EZS before I installed hardy I could have two movies playing an audio track playing and three web pages open plus the text editor in gusty.I use to do this to show people the os .Now I can play a movie but the quality sucks video and audio compared to gusty and depending on the codec of the avi determines whether I can attempt to open a web page due to system lag so there is more going on here than just the driver, seems that way to me anyway.

I was reading real fast that some peeps returned their cards back to new egg for lack of driver support by ati. Don't think it was your card.

on another subject I have to ask myself what are they spending all this money on Ubuntu that is 2)Conical are they subject to the backdoor law for government access to your pc?3) whats with always rewriting fire fox when the original works better and also having to take evolution mail sever 4)why would Conical even bother to get involved in this?I have read stories of people on probation that used linux had to switch to windows so they can be monitored.
maybe it's If you can't beat them join them or even better destroy from within. Now this is me just thinking out loud at best but I do ask myself these questions

I installed ubuntu8.0.4.1 on an compaq laptop the other day I was a little gun shy about it but did what I was asked. The install was flawless and painless a far cry from the first hardy. The only thing that did not work at first was the wireless broadcom card as their pricks..Found out what card it had grabbed a dell driver wrapped it and that was it.Painless,I think from now on it gets a new name from me, very very hardy. This is worth downloading and installing for the people who are interested. If you have a laptop I would read first on wireless cards, but a desktop go for it should not give you one bit of grief.Definitely very very hardy.
