Iran-Israel arms race heats up, both boost naval capabilities By Haaretz Staff and Channel 10 Tags: Israel Navy, Iran Haaretz.com/Channel 10 daily feature for August 26, 2008. The arms race between Israel and Iran is moving to the sea. In Iran, the production of domestically-made submarines recently began. The Iranian defense minister, who visited the production line Monday, said the purpose of the submarines would be to defend the oil pipelines in the <span style="color:blue">Strait of Hormuz, through which up to 40 percent of the world's oil supply passes. Advertisement But of particular interest to Israel is the fact that the submarines will have the capability to launch what the Iranian state media called "various kinds of missiles." No further details were provided. Meanwhile, the Israel Navy has its own plans. Two years after Hezbollah almost sank one of Israel's top warships in the Second Lebanon War, naval supremacy has moved up on the military's list of priorities. http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/1015449.html |

Don't you think it's starting to be pathetic that everyday someone else in Iran threatens Israel ,US or any other country? it really looks like the lil kid thinking he is a big shot until one of the big ones comes and shut him up. |

agreed nik.
If a reporter asks an iranian minister "what would happen if Israel attacks your nuclear facilities? He responds "we will attack Israel with our defensive capability" some shit like that. The paper then quotes the minister as saying "we will attack Israel with our defensive capability" hey did they make a threat? |

From a little inside source, Iran in turnaround these days. Achmedinajed on the outs, has driven the country to the brink of economic collapse. Larjani (sp?) and more diplomatic types already talking openly to the US. Agreements to put hammer and tongs to the Taliban. New arrangements on opium profits and lines of distribution. Sharing of Iraqi influence. Possible US investment in much needed upgrading oil infrastructure and refineries. Still in discussion stage but promising. If any commitments, still won't hit the press into 2009. Mike F |

Quote:rsol wrote, brink of economic collapse - sanctions and power plays i.e. shipping magnates driving up the cost of tanker rents by 700%+ knowing Iran still had to pump out crude to keep it's economy afloat - which 'group' most influential amongst shipping magnates and consortiums? Ahmendinejad - a puppet serving a role (for who?)- dialogues between Central Bankers and Iranian Guardian Council where the real wrangling is imo Restructuring Iraq - 'we've got just the companies for you' ala J.Perkins style "New arrangements for Opium profits and lines of distribution" - I don't doubt that there will be..but the question is "How will that affect the 'man on the street'?" you get me? |
