'Holocaust denier' Gerald Toben arrested at Heathrow
Quote:An alleged Holocaust denier has been arrested after flying into London's Heathrow Airport.

German-born Australian national Dr Gerald Fredrick Toben, 64, was detained by the Metropolitan Police extradition unit using an EU arrest warrant issued by the German authorities.

The founder of the Adelaide Institute, a web and print publication that questions the Holocaust, he is accused of publishing material on the internet "of an anti-Semitic and/or revisionist nature" that "denies, approves of or plays down the mass murder of Jews by the Nazis".

The arrest warrant alleges that Dr Toben committed the offence in Australia, Germany and other countries.

In a disclaimer on his website, Dr Toben writes of his work: "If you wish to begin to doubt the Holocaust-Shoah narrative, you must be prepared for personal sacrifice, must be prepared for marriage and family break-up, loss of career, and go to prison.

"This is because Revisionists are, among other things, dismantling a massive multi-billion dollar industry that the Holocaust-Shoah enforcers are defending, as well as the survival of Zionist-racist Israel."

In the past he has denied that he said that the Holocaust was a "lie". He has previously been convicted in Germany of inciting racial hatred.

In 2006, he was among a group of Holocaust academics who attended two-day "Review of the Holocaust: global vision" conference organised by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad of Iran, who caused international outrage by describing the Holocaust as a "myth".

He is due to appear at City of Westminster Magistrates' Court in central London.

Holocaust revisionist seized in London

Quote:An Australian Holocaust revisionist has been arrested in London for posting online materials denying mass killings of Jews in World War II.

Gerald Frederick Toben, a founder and director of the Holocaust denial Adelaide Institute, was arrested at Heathrow Airport, Australia's ABC Radio reported.

The 64-year-old former school teacher was refused bail in London's Westminster Magistrate's court and is to appear again on Friday for an extradition hearing.

Toben, who is wanted by the District Court in Mannheim, Germany, was arrested under a European Union arrest warrant over publishing material on the internet of “an anti-Semitic and/or revisionist nature.”

Remanded in custody until the Friday's session, he condemned his trial as an insult and "a done deal between Britain and Germany.”

Questioning the Holocaust is an offense in Germany where the deniers could face a jail term of up to five years.

Toben objected to the terms of the warrant and called an extradition order against Schengen agreement.

"This is an abuse of process. This is a legal ambush. It's not British law where the individual still has freedoms," he told the court.

"The Schengen agreement protected me. Britain has not the Holocaust denier laws that Germany has so they are slipping [this offence] in as a race hatred and cyber crime," he added.

In 1999, Toben was sentenced to seven months in jail in Germany when he was seized en route from the US to Dubai. He has also served an 11-month sentence in Austria for his comments on what the Jewish society holds as gospel truth.

In 2006, Toben was a speaker at a two-day conference in Tehran which questioned the claims of Nazis' war crimes in the Second World War and was also attended by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

Born in Germany in June 1944, Toben is a PhD holder from the University of Stuttgart and has authored eight books.

Apparently if you were born in Germany you can not deny the Holocaust.
So he was sent back to Germany to meet his fate.

But you can tell the truth that Hitler and Eva spent years after the war in a town
near Germany's Holocaust Museum if you wanted to.

Yet this truth is classified.
Ask any CIA agent.

Holocaust denier gets MP backing

Quote:British courts should refuse to act on an EU arrest warrant requesting the extradition of an alleged Holocaust denier, a senior Lib Dem has said.

Australian citizen Dr Gerald Toben was remanded in custody after his arrest by British Police at Heathrow Airport.

German authorities allege Dr Toben published material online "of an anti-semitic and/or revisionist nature".

But home affairs spokesman Chris Huhne said holocaust denial is not a crime in the UK and he should not be extradited.

Dr Toben, a German-born former schoolteacher, was en route from the United States to Dubai when he was arrested.

He has been remanded in custody ahead of a bail hearing on 10 October and a full hearing on 17 October.

He has previously been convicted in Germany for breaking a law that prohibits denying or "playing down" the mass murder of the Jews under Hitler.

But some human rights campaigners have backed his case, saying that his views - however unpleasant - do not make him a criminal in the UK.

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), acting for the German authorities, argues that agreements signed in 2003 between the UK and other European countries mean that Britain is duty-bound to assist the German authorities.

But Mr Huhne, a former MEP, told BBC Radio 4's Today Programme that countries could "pick and choose" cases in which they would apply warrants issued by fellow EU member states.

The Lib Dem home affairs spokesman said there were good legal grounds for refusing to participate. He cited the case of Belgium, which is refusing to send suspects to Poland on murder charges which related to abortion.

Mr Huhne said: "There is a clear precedent for doing this and I think we should in this case."

Dr Toben has in the past described the Holocaust as "a lie" and has claimed on his Australian-based website, the Adelaide Institute, there was "no proof" Hitler systematically exterminated the Jews.

'Pretty dodgy'

While stressing that he was completely opposed to anti-semitism, Mr Huhne said: "We don't in this country tend to prosecute people for issues that we regard as issues of freedom of speech."

Mr Huhne said the case seemed "pretty dodgy" given the fact the offence was not committed in Germany.

In his court appearance earlier this week, Dr Toben, 64, claimed he was the victim of a "legal ambush" and promised never to return to Britain if he was allowed to leave.

Judges will decide whether the alleged conduct constitutes an extraditable offence.

Ok, what is wrong with this picture: Does the USA downplay what happens in Iraq, well yes. Did the USA downplay what happened in Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Korea, Afganastan, etc?

Do most countries downplay what occurred in their conflicts? Yes, you say?

So why does Germany up-play, highlight, showcase, call attention to, and in various ways enshrine their role in the holocaust? Hmmmmm??? Why??

I know why.....DO YOU?

Holocaust denier to appear in court

Quote:Gerald Fredrick Toben, 64, was arrested at Heathrow at the request of German authorities for publishing "anti-Semitic and/or revisionist" material between 2000 and 2004.

Holocaust denial is an offence in Germany where Dr Toben faces up to five years in prison if found guilty.

The Australian citizen was arrested while travelling from America to Dubai under a European Arrest Warrant designed to fast-track extraditions.

Dr Toben is due to appear before City Westminster Magistrates' Court for an extradition hearing. Earlier this month he objected to the terms of his arrest warrant at the court, saying: "This is a legal ambush. It's not British law, where the individual still has freedoms."

He claimed that he would not get a fair trial in Germany. "As soon as I open my mouth they will prove I am guilty," he said.

A German arrest warrant was issued in 2004 which alleges that he denied, approved or played down the mass murder of Jews perpetrated by the Nazis during the Second World War. The warrant stated that he had committed the offences in Australia, Germany and other countries.

The German-born historian is the founder and director of the Adelaide Institute, a Holocaust denial group.

On his website he wrote: "If you wish to begin to doubt the Holocaust-Shoah narrative, you must be prepared for personal sacrifice, must be prepared for marriage and family break-up, loss of career, and go to prison."

I dont agree with his assessment of WW2 but arresting him just makes him look like a martyr. It doesn't make any sense. Is this just another way to radicalize Nazis?

I had a discussion with someone who had very strong views about this. Bizarrely she said that if hitler had not been given freespeach then he would never have come to power.

Apart from being completely dangerous in assessment it also discounts the fact that Hitler rose to power through intimidation and suppression of dissent.
