New line of intel processors coming out soon...
The code name is "Nehalem". The new name is Core i7. Any thoughts from a conspiratorial point of view?
Intel plans to curb overclocking for anything reasonably priced, with only the top models unlocked. All standard models of the new processors will feature an overclock lock. As a budget overclocker running an e7200 @ 3.8ghz/1600fsb right now, I resent this new "feature". I'm buying a beer for the first hacker that unlocks the low model processors. http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/Intel-...halem,2057.html &We didn't have education. We had inspiration. Well the Nehalem is the largest architectural change in the Intel x86 family since the Pentium Pro in 1995, and I really wouldn't see any point in over clocking such a over ridiculous piece of hardware, who knows what the other clocks have in them, since the price ratio is ridiculously separated 2.66 at $284 to 2.93 $562.
-------------------------------------- In the single-threaded Super PI 1M test, a Core i7 920 running at 2.66 Ghz finished the test in 15.36 seconds, while a QX9770 (3.2 Ghz) did the test in 14.42 seconds, so the Core i7 executed 20% more instructions per clock cycle on this test. However, more recent testing done on all speeds of official hardware with final drivers and BIOS revisions show that Core i7 at the very least beats Yorkfield clock-for-clock, and in most cases exceeds it by an average of about 17%. -------------------------------------- I am thinking the architectural make up of the chip might not be "reasonable" to Over clock, since the current Motherboards that support the chips may be only stable with the builds in their form, since the chips a brand new architecture the bios and everything may have to have some crazy tuning and complex stability issues. |

update:
http://www.xtremesystems.org/Forums/show...p?t=206571 someone already got it over clocked to 5.4 GHZ Jesus 1mb pi test in 7 seconds! My P4 barely makes 30 seconds at 3.8 GHZ for comparison Wether its stable though when running programs no idea, lol he is only posting bio and pi images |
