Israel takes Iran condemnation to UN

Israeli Ambassador Gabriela Shalev claimed Iranian Vice President Esfandiar Rahim Mashaei has called for the obliteration of the Israeli regime.

In a Dec. 10 meeting, Mashaei condemned Israel over the blockade it has imposed on the Gaza Strip -- which according to the UN Human Rights Council on Dec. 11 is a blatant example of 'crimes against humanity'.

Shalev said the remarks by Mashaei were not 'mere rhetoric' but proved that Iran is a nuclear menace to Israeli security.

"Iran takes active steps to promote its vision of the annihilation of Israel…Furthermore, Iran continues to defy the international community and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) regarding Iran's nuclear program," she claimed.

Due to the Iranian criticism of Tel Aviv policies against Gazans, Israeli officials have long attempted to propagate the idea that Tehran seeks to wipe Israel off the map.

In a September interview with CNN's Larry King Live, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said that Israel would disappear in the same way as apartheid South Africa and the Soviet Union.
