Michigan city bans being annoying in public
Fri Dec 19, 8:38 pm ET BRIGHTON, Mich. – Ticking someone off could get you a ticket in one Michigan city. The Brighton City Council on Thursday approved an ordinance allowing police in the Livingston County community to ticket and fine anyone who is annoying in public "by word of mouth, sign or motions." The Livingston County Daily Press & Argus of Howell reports the measure is modeled on a similar ordinance in the Detroit suburb of Royal Oak. A city attorney says there could be situations where the measure would violate freedom of speech, but that those cases will be reviewed by the city. The ban takes effect Jan. 2. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081220/ap_on_...lKQu_y37rxeW7oF &Alice laughed, &There's no use trying,& she said: &one can't believe impossible things.& &I daresay you haven't had much practice,& said the Queen. &When I was your age I always did it for half-an-hour a day. Michigan city bans being annoying in public
This sucks. In the UK we have 'antisocial behaviour orders' which are given for conduct 'likely to cause harrasment, alarm or distress' to the public. This basically allows you to be punished for things which aren't even crimes on the flimsiest evidence. They are also rolling out on the spot fines of £80 for threatening words or behaviour as well in some places. They also love their anti-terrorism law. You can be stopped and searched with no evidence whatsoever, not even a reasonable suspicion here in the UK and they try and collect your name and address for their databases!:(
