So, even though most activism has been usurped or undermined, I thought...
It might be a good idea to create some form of notification for time-sensitive info. Some way for members to know about an update or forum issue that could use immediate attention - something with desperate repercussions either for the forum or a geopolitical location.
It could be a sub or a sub-sub forum for ¨action alerts¨ or some such wording, or something like the banner that got hung regarding the recent bandwidth price increase. I understand why many might not want another subforum, but with something like a 48 hr time limit might be worth instituting, as long as the sysop or someone else trusted is willing to do so. This is a brainstorm, and its not worth fighting about, so there´s no flaming necessary.

Thanks for the input. This should be a place where we can have open conversations about how we´d like it to be run, as long as we realize that we´re asking for favors from people who don´t get the recognition that they should for doing what they do.
if you want something else beyond this particular suggestion, especially if it has to do with raising this particular community beyond what it is... other than what I´ve suggested, then start your own thread.

RE: So, even though most activism has been usurped or undermined, I thought...
Well here are some choices for highlighting stuff that we/you/us have and can use outside of the organic method of popular threads working their way to the top of the frequented destination of View Today's Posts.
* The red exclamation point post icon * PM a mod and it might get stickied in the forum category * Post it in the ConCen Facebook group * If applicable, make a torrent On the mod side alerts may project bias and we'd probably get wind of it from elsewhere if something really big and crazy happened like a 9.1 Earthquake Tsunami, an entire national government getting killed in an 'accidental' plane crash, an attack on tall buildings or a (fake) alien invasion. I think we're covered as is. That said, there may be an instance that we can utilize the "top of every page" for announcing something epic but that is usually used for community crisis/business/big decisions directly related to ConCen. As for initiative announcements we have Breaking the Chains and ConCen Originals at our disposal. There are no others, there is only us. http://FastTadpole.com/ |

RE: So, even though most activism has been usurped or undermined, I thought...
understood. The point was less to announce current important issues, and more to announce important, time sensitive issues - things like the NDAA indefinite detention clause being voted on in congress within the next 48 hrs. or massive impromptu direct actions that might not get press coverage (on purpose) with the intention of taking parties that would be responsive if they were given warning not having much warning. this could involve mobiliazation around physical direct action or flooding sites with more traffic than they can handle, etc.
IMO this forum doesn't currently have the capability to handle that type of situation. and also, solely IMO, IT SHOULD. there are far to many comments on the forum asking what we could do to change our situation as it stands to ignore this gaping hole in our ability to create change.

Quote:IMO this forum doesn't currently have the capability to handle that type of situation. It does.. PM those in your area or people you wish to arrange bum rush storms on comment sections of articles, forums and facebook groups. For all of its faults I've found the Facebook Events module to be a great way to arrange meets and actions locally in the meatspace. Perhaps we could consider something like that if people would use it. The Forum DOES have a calender function but it is disabled, that might be the solution you are seeking. Outside of the forum there are plenty of calender apps out there to sync with other members if the commitment is there. Given enough interest I'm sure we can bring it back, it was removed because it was never used. We could use a map or use google maps to pinpoint out locales and find those for local direct actions. I found it hard to find out where people were shouting out from since members are and never were searchable by locale too easily, if at all. I would recommend something like that be a voluntary disclosure though. http://www.friendshipagenda.com/ does a decent job of using Google maps to serve as a social lubricant. I've seen members collaborate mostly on the side of ConCen more directly and personally. Things like ConCen Radio, NAWS, Love Police and some spinoffs have been augmented but I agree more of that would totally be the point of this site lest we are mooted to a state of mental masturbation as observers, armchair quarterbacks, lost prophets. Thought without action amounts to very little when all is said and done. There are no others, there is only us. http://FastTadpole.com/ |

That doesn't mean I, (or anyone else,) can get my point across on this site when it comes to a critical, time sensitive mobilization. The fact that two staff members make up half of the respondents (all of which answered positively,) to this poll makes me think that this is something that others find important and would consider worth the effort. I'd really appreciate others making their voice heard. It wouldn't hurt, would it?

A ConCen Twitter feed perhaps?

You know, things like a direct action in 48 hrs - 7 days, a senate or parliamentary vote in the next few days - things that have a short timeline and specific action tied to them - something for people who want to get involved doing something other than research or shooting the shit. It might help generate traffic when links get cross-posted. personally I thought a sub-sub forum like zionism or secret societies within the "breaking the chains" sub forum would work. I don't think it would get too much bs in it (no more than anywhere else anyway) since breaking the chains doesn't get all that many posts anyway.I guess that wouldn't work so well for forum issues, but staff seems to have that pretty well wrapped up.
