Opting Out
This was written by Fitzy over at GreatMindsofToday.com....

I think of this post so often. Wanted to share it with you lot....

Thoughts are always welcome of course....
I know it's long... but I feel it was very well written, and filled with tremendous "out of the box" insight. (My opinion) Rolleyes

Quote:Opting Out

If you are new to this site, and new to the subject of the Truth Movement, some of what follows may make little sense.

Let me summarize it in brief, what was once compelling – conspiracy theories, UFO folklore, alternative histories, secret societies and certain mystery school revelations – is no longer the draw card it was.

This blog entry will cover why its lost its appeal, and what will replace it, both the good and the bad.

There are two allies (all lies?,…no, All Eyes) in this parting of the ways, basic Human curiosity and home grown Human logic – more on that soon.

First… for many of us, the alternative to the Big Network News and commercial publications, were quirky magazines and the internet based, parallel Media. These would bring you stories, reports and investigations about things many people seldom imagine, let alone consider. It was compelling, it was strange, it was different.

Curiosity Fooled The Cat

Nine lives? You'll need em'

There exists a number of what I personally call, ‘Utility Tricks’, techniques that return multiple benefits from a single action/method, these are discussed at length on many blogs on the net. These Tricks are primed by the culture we live in, and are triggered when curiosity gets the better of us.

One of them, is to ensure we don’t go looking for answers outside of orthodox religion/education/politics and science. If you’ve ever started an unusual conversation with someone less curious than you, you will have heard the following…

“Say what?, man you’re crazy.”

And my personal favorite…

“You some kind of conspiracy nut?”

This is Utility Trick Numero Uno, get the culture to police its curious – so its leaders don’t have too, why pay for it when doofus joe public censors his own kind. This rejection shuts down a lot of people, it lends itself to anything from stopping dissenting political views, to media sidelining abuse victim testimonies.

However because its a Utility Trick, it has a neat counter effect, its steers the Determinedly curious into a preset trap. If you pursue your curiosity uncritically, a sense of rebellion will push you towards new, but entrapping narratives.

Follow the Yellow Trick Road
So rather than failing to prevent you ‘finding stuff out’, its actually catapulted you towards ‘Mysterious stuff’, a large percentage of which can stop you dead in your tracks. There are sites producing consumable Alternatives every bit as factory like as a major media producer or TV network.

Because there is an emotional content to a self-perception of rebelling, the ‘Mysterious stuff’ becomes as precious to the uncritical thinker, as American Idol is to the terminally hypnotized.

So to summarize, escaping the commercial world of media, and entering the world of the Alternative Media, holds a risk of equally debilitating entrapment, just as being sucked into America’s next Top Model or Time magazine is.

Second… Once immersed in the world of ‘Alternative Media’, divisions arise between factions, which often prevent any genuine progress of the field in question. We have some authors on every subject from UFO’s to the Supernatural who advanced their theories fifty years ago, whose accolytes have seldom superceded their Guru’s with fresh or better theories. Just my opinion.

One could argue, the UFO community has stalled, with the exception of the greatly missed Mac Tonnies and a small handful of similar minds, who offer us the conclusion that whatever the UFO phenomenon is – it isn’t what we think it is. This is a brave position, after all, we’re conditioned to reject uncertainty.

That capacity to offer a totally dissenting point of view, is seldom welcomed by many in the ‘Alternative Media community’, whose frameworks and incentives are as rigid as those establishments, that we curious Humans left behind.

The appeal of the Alternative
A strong emotional connection, drags many of us down – deeper than we like to admit, into a new and shinier mental cage.

Sadly, for some of us in this alternative movement, Mental, Physical or Sexual abuse is an element that drove us away from the enfeebling ‘Mainstream Media’, years ago.

Some of us went looking for a community, albeit haphazardly, that would accept us, some of us felt we were ‘too weird’, or believed others found us too intense, too irritating to fit in into vanilla reality. If we’re honest, some of us are damaged, carrying baggage, its not a criticism – more an appraisal.

Many of us find ourselves gravitating to the Alternative, after all if we were all happy consumers, America’s Next Top Model/Monster Truck Racing, and the NFL would fill the empty spot where our soul once was.

If I’m mean spirited about it, some of us wear a victim sign on our forehead, and to the malignant out there its obvious. It just another way to keep track of the poor souls likely to remember incriminating things.

Many of us are susceptible to suggestions of secrets and mysteries, since we are carrying around our own personal mystery cult, like attracted alike, and we too eagerly accepted the mantle of powerlessness that conspiracies imply.

Fairy Tale Reality

is your mind on Pop Culture

Utility Tricks prevent too much tampering with the fairy tale we call Reality, and there is more to the term “Fairy Tale” than implications of childrens stories. Sorry Fairies, we’re on to you.

The magic of ‘the Trick’ is it replaces one narrative, with another, and we fight over that narrative within that narrative’s framework. We also fight with those outside that framework, around and around we go….getting nowhere, burning energy, and bridges for nothing.

Many of us Opting out of the ‘Alternative Media community’ or ‘The Truth Movement’ are doing so in part, because of the obviously ridiculous fictions at play in those communities. While our hypothetical zoo keepers feed us a milligram of Truth for each Kilogram of BS, just to keep us chewing, its become so obvious and unpalatable we can’t abide it any longer.

So in summary, our own judgement and critical thinking is rejecting Alternative memes and narratives, and what little truth there is on offer in those movements is too meager to hold our attention.

So whats next?

What I’m seeing is the amalgamation of ALL media, with a single narrative duplicitously promoted as dozens of separate world views. More and more often, the Alternative media has become the second voice for the main stream media, and here’s how obvious it is that they are the same thing;

THEIR ANSWERS ALWAYS COME FROM OUTSIDE OF YOU.

The curious but manipulated Human is conditioned to consume answers, as opposed to finding their own answers from first hand experience, it is consumption, it is consumerism. It is the same.

The Alt and Mainstream Media now collide regularly, offering different slants on the same stories, hell the BBC even ran news of the UK M.O.D releasing UFO files. Ten years ago that would have been a late night by-line by an unpopular news anchor – who would of raised an eyebrow implying it was all crazy stuff anyhow. Now here’s the weather.

My how times have changed.

Consider Fukushima, while the big networks pounded us for days with it, the Alternative media went into a tale-spin of hyper-threat. Once the Big networks got bored and went off to find Bin-Ladens-corpse-at-the-Royal-Wedding-of-Laddie Gaga, the Alt media kept on pounding it. Weeks later and it remains reasonably high on the Alt media’s watch list.

True, there are big, long term health issues attached to this disaster, but what we’re seeing, is the brilliant stimulation of particular Human personality types being used to keep the cortisol levels up in others.

The Narrative of the Alt Media is the narrative of the victimized rebel, holding the moral high ground while failing to advance any social improvement his knowledge proclaims to hold.

The narrative of the Main stream media, is that of the authoritative professional, demanding uncritical acceptance, while blatantly omitting the hard questions in favor of puff pieces about movie stars and entertainers.

One might be convinced these two formats are opposites, but they’re not, they’re the same thing. All their answers are packaged, labelled, and marketed to a friendly and receptive audience. When you can and do buy a T-Shirt saying ‘Down with the New World Order’, you’ve pretty much cashed in your logic chips.

Eventually the Alt media will soften its rhetoric – becoming more main stream, and the main stream will lean a little more towards the weird. Ultimately, neither will say anything of lasting use, because their job is to contain your energy, consciously or unconsciously, not liberate or inform you.

So where do we go from here?

It seems inevitable to me that the Alt and Main stream media will blatantly merge, becoming little more than a kind of Pop culture pissing competition, between equally moribund and ridiculous outlets.

But, there is a counter to this, and rather than being the Alternative to the Alternative, its the other way of being Human, so seldom projected by any media outlet.

Ultra-individualism, for want of a better term, is on the rise.

Thinkers, artists, writers and poets, mad men and mad women, lunatics, fringe dwellers and eccentric outcasts all.

Where they gather, they meet, when they go they depart alone, they say what they say as they say it. They are true to themselves, they are congruent and infuriatingly ‘who’ and ‘what’ they say they are, they have largely abandoned the Fairy-Tale version of reality.

Instead they are creating New Worlds, New Language, shedding the programming, the manipulation, the threats and the coercion from that smoldering ruin some call culture.

Their answers are questions, always questions, and they’re ready to say they don’t know, just as keenly as saying they do know. They are not Guru’s or leaders, they are generous and compassionate, they never claim an exclusive truth.

They won’t be forming the next Prison Planet or Al Jazeera site, nor will they aggregate others news stories, with a darker spin. They share what they’ve personally found, and gladly so, and they have been on the receiving end of venom and vitriol like you wouldn’t believe.

And despite all of that, they continue to look for their own answers, and that takes them to some very dark corners of the earth. And yet they keep looking at all that is in front of them, the true edge of mans knowledge of self, continues to expand despite all the hurdles.

It was said by the ancients, that a mans proper pursuit was knowledge of himself, and what an unplumbed resource we are. Which leads me to the final part.

Who tells us what we are?
Mankind has been in the dark for millennia, how do I justify that statement?

Our legends are not our own.

The stories of the ancients gods, are not entirely the story of ‘Us’, though they do describe how we became the ‘Us’ we are today. Every deeply rooted myth, and legend, every image we have of the hero, or the gods, was place into us for a purpose – not necessarily our own. Its these icons we turn too, these myths about us, that define and entwine each of us into a narrative – where we are simply reduced to the spectators of a fabricated history. By consuming movies, books and music, we are removed from participation in creation, we are like the parasite – eating and devouring, never sated, because we turned from actively creating for ourselves. We cannibalize the energy of others.

Ask yourself, in all the myths, who does the creating – notionally the creator, but the creator is always The Gods or a God. And what do they create?

‘Us’.

And they play their dramas out on us, and man bows before the Gods or God, poor little thing, so fragile and dependent,…if it wasn’t for the Gods we’d never find Heaven,…yeah right, …F**kers!, ‘WE ARE’ the Heaven makers, ‘WE ARE HEAVEN.’

And what do the Gods or God do to us, they afflict ‘Us’ for disobedience, or set ‘Us’ against each other in their wars, or have ‘Us’ sacrifice one another to them, or to him, or to her.

And for what?

For Their glory, for His namesake, JUST COS THEY SAID SO! And some amongst us would be Gods, and their raggardy-arsed narrative is the same.

In the inebriating legends the Hero’s personal sacrifice – and death, leads to a post-humus beatification. The Hero is dead, but everyone loves him or her, for dying in their place.

The cowardice of the Parasite, is the relief its not them, and the dogma that someone had to die. Its the perversion of true alchemy, feeding the land blood, to bring about spring and abundance, the myth of holy murder renewing the earth. We are abundance, We are renewal, sacrifice is an irrelevant, profane and filthy lie.

At this point in fabricated Human history, any sane entity would shun such disgusting bloodletting, why should anyone of us die for any cause?

WE can create a lasting peace, a sane, compassionate outcome for all of Us – a just and decent result - together.

And many of Us WILL it to be so.

Only by replacing Mankind’s capacity for Self-Narration, Self-Authorship with Self-Censorship, could such lunatic ideas such as Lordship, Elitism, Kings and Queens and Clergy be established.

We must be the ones who tells Us what we are, and that must be congruent with our deepest and most genuine purpose.

Opting Out of the Truth movement is Opting IN to your own, valid and worthwhile truth.

YOU, Author your own Reality.

RE: Opting Out
Good find April, it is a considerable subject and one which I like to reflect on as I swim through my see of scenarios. What do we really know, should language be played like a musical instrument or do we want it to remain talksic or cacophony.

The bigger they are the less able they are to move quickly. The downfall of the dinosaurs was that they put all their eggs in one basket, a handy breakfast one stop shop for those who were egged on, the yolk wasn't on them it was in them. Now the yoke is on us. We were herded into this school of faith based knowledge and attempting to apply holy patches to our mental sieve is a full time job for the MSM and the other cold blooded cahootstirs. They don't want us to strain the currentsee, they wants us to swallow the status quo until death do us part. We need to fashion a sifter to pull the nowbees into the eye of their individual hurricane.

An error does not become truth by reason of multiplied propagation, nor does truth become error because nobody sees it.

RE: Opting Out
Great post. Lots of truth to that.
I do agree with a lot of it in a sense, however I feel the person this speaks most to are the types that are new to alternative media or new to the world of truths in some conspiracies.
Ive often felt that people that are too quick to replace the mainstream media with the alternative media's POV, are just as much to blame for no real changes to the status quo as any other mainstream thinkers. Ive seen it 1st hand. Just look at most of the comments on sites like PP/IW and you can see it clearly.
I do believe there is such thing as natural leaders and natural followers. Probably something hardwired in us as humans. IE.. Alpha males or what not. I wish it wasnt so but it seems like the more I see people claim to be free thinkers, the more I see how full of shit they really are.

RE: Opting Out
Also see the followup of Opting Out another good philosophical insight put to bytes, by the author known as Fitzy.

Opting Out 2: Resolution Evolution
http://greatmindsoftoday.com/2011/07/22/...evolution/

The great truths are hard to discern even with the best logical filters, although they certainly help but without correct source data or experience or a person you can trust reporting from the front lines you'll find yourself going to your intuition a bit more than you should if you're a strict critical thinker.

Resolution to this quandry? Well both the mainstream and the alt media are rife with lies, co-opted but there are nuggets of truth in them as the best lies are 95% truth; truth is shrouded by omission, false paths, intricate puzzles that fit perfectly a few different ways.

Best way I've found (so far) is a multi-step process bearing those factors listed above. Come up with an independent result without reading anything on it. Come with a motive tree and see who benefits by having this information published to effect the mass psyche. See it through a child's eyes.

Discuss with other people that think with a wide angle brain, like say a lot of folks here on ConCen that may see things in an innovative non-force fed way with a lot off experience in peeling back the layers of a story.

If it is worth your time is to look at it from every angle, big picture, small picture, get reports from outside the repeating circle find out where the story originated from and confirm it with those who made the quote or at least get it in full context to avoid the spin factor.

If there is math and science involved, do it yourself or at least find the methodology for the information that fed the dataset. 95.6% of statistics are manufactured, off kilter weighted, spun like a centrifuge or not-so-randomly sampled.

Decide whether it is really important or put it in the trash bin. Your time is a commodity. Have a goal. Avoid the rabbit holes, the red herrings and things that would take lifetimes to prove/disprove unless you do your information consumption routine just for fun. I personally try to focus on stories and/or angles that are oft-ignored, too shallowly delved by MSM AND the Alt-Media and follow-up with it best I can with what I got. When they are doing something flashy with one hand they are probably doing something with the other one behind their back.

That said trust has to start somewhere we can't all be cynical "Trust No One" skeptics or we get nowhere. Trust by default. Innocent until proven guilty when it comes to most things unless you have reason not to or the stakes are high then give a chance to earn it lest nothing be accomplished in the paranoid state.

There are no others, there is only us.
