News International — which owns the 168-year-old tabloid — announced it would be axed, adding that the alleged practices were "inhuman" and had "no place in our Company".

Chairman James Murdoch revealed the news to shocked staff at the papers' offices in London this afternoon.

is it just me or are they frantically closing shop in an attempt to avoid potential private litigation for the hacking?
i am just hoping that the news international group will still be liable in court for the NotW's shit

I remember the Andy Gray/Richard Keys fiasco and how that turned into a moral circus. The video 'exposing' him had been on youtube for weeks before the scandal but it was reported as if someone just miraculously came across it. Turns out Gray was about to sue the NotW for phone hacking and of course Rupert Murdoch's links to Sky and the NotW helped fuel the public demand for his removal. Karen Brady is an idiot too.

the people i feel sorry for are the printers and the lowly at the notw, their the ones who are going to lose the most, thats the tragedy here. as for the jouno's, well they live and die by what they do, what i can't understand is how mrs brooks still has her job at the paper and as diddy cameron's buddy at no10. the murdochs are well known tories so that'll be the answer, as they have already made 2 new webpages ( the sun on sunday and another pretty close to that,2 days before the notw shut) not as much of a spur of the moment as they try to lead us to believe. let's just hope that they get told to shove their bid for outright ownership of bskyb, and get found out for the lying,lawbreaking scum that they are, rotten from the hackers to the journo's to the chief exec's to the murdochs. for the the son and his devil father to claim ignorance is a slap to all our intelligence, but then i'm sure most of the public will fall for their lies and crap,again. politics and the media marriage made in profit and pain.......

well most of the people there thought it was brooks telling them all she was to resign. they never saw it coming....

i think mr murdoch was hoping that by cutting off the tail of the snake he would save the rest.

This tactic has backfired in England as most see this as just a way to placate the public and keep his top tier aids and allies. Everyone knows his agenda and how his red tops dictate it. he is trying to get that sort of power in the British televised media the same way he has manipulated the news agenda of the USA. however he has underestimated the british. this has been highlighted by this whole affair. this is the beginning of the end of his empire, i hope he lives long enough to watch it crumble.....
