BEIRUT, Lebanon, April 9 (UPI) -- The Lebanese Hezbollah on Thursday denied claims that it was plotting attacks on Egyptian soil as authorities there interrogated scores of alleged militants.

Al-Jazeera reported Thursday that Egyptian authorities are interrogating several suspects believed to be plotting attacks as agents of Hezbollah.

The Arab media outlet said authorities are questioning Egyptians, Lebanese and Palestinians arrested in December in connection with their ties to Hamas. Another Lebanese man is under interrogation, suspected of acting as a liaison between Hamas and Hezbollah.

On Wednesday, Egyptian authorities said Hezbollah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah ordered attacks on Egypt from Hezbollah affiliates in the North African country.

Hezbollah denied the allegations through its al-Manar news agency, saying it has no ambitions outside Lebanese territory, noting "its sole focus" was to counter "Zionist aggression."
