Rep Brady and Freedom of Speech
So while the Giffords shooting is a tremendous tragey, people should remember that terrible rhetoric has been a staple of American politics since the countrys inception over two hundred years ago. Keep in mind also that I am not condoning that behavior, just pointing out that it always has and always will continue to exist.

That being said, members of Congress have always taken reactionary measures towards situations like these, especially if their posisitions are threatened. Thus I was mildly amused and somewhat shaken by a small one liner I read in an article this morning...

Rep. Robert Brady (D-Penn.), a streetwise Philly pol, went further, telling CNN that he would introduce legislation making it a federal crime “to use a language or symbols that could be perceived as threatening or inciting violence against a Member of Congress or federal official. [i]

So the people "elected" by the population should now become untouchable to the same people they serve? A bill like this can only lead to a slippery slope of complete disconnection from the citizenry, if that has not already completely happened yet.

As I said, the things said by some are sometimes way out of line, but are no different than what has happened in the past. Why a bill like this now when Presidents have been shot at and killed for the span of our history?
