ID cards required to use public internet - UAE gov't
Quote:The UAE’s Ministry of Interior has said that ID cards will be required to access the internet in cafes and public centres throughout the country.

According to the Department of Public Information Security, the new regulations are intended to identify suspected cyber criminals and stop fraud, sexual exploitation of children, and the circulation of pornographic material.

In addition to requiring ID cards to be used, UAE daily Emarat Al Youm said the Ministry is also introducing a series of other measures to track paedophiles who may try to contact children over the internet, or exchange illegal files involving children.

Programmes will be made available to parents that will allow them to block their children’s access to certain websites, and a team of law enforcement experts from around the world has been assembled to combat the exploitation of children through the internet.

Major Faisal Al-Shammari, the team’s media liaison, said that it draws from a range of institutions in the US, Britain, Australia, Canada, and Italy, in addition to the International Police, or Interpol.

He claimed that “the crime of the exploitation of children via the internet is still very limited in the UAE, because of the privacy of the community and its commitment to Arab values and traditions.”

The end of 2010 has been set as the deadline for expatriates living in the UAE to register for ID cards. Professionals have been warned they could face problems with services such as obtaining a driver's licence, visiting a doctor or opening a bank account if they miss the deadline.

In Canada they have this implemented for the most part. Don't they already do this via the library requiring your ID card to sign in? This isn't true for the kiosks though even though there are CCTV cameras everywhere they exist. How is it in other countries? I suppose the UAE needs to align to our 'standards'.

Id like to know a whole lot more about Dubai as all I keep hearing is that it is a notorious hiding spot for sick peedos. Are they already there from the U.A.E or is it outsiders from other countries doing horrid things to children in Dubai ? (to anyone who can answer) thanks.

For instance check this ~ http://www.metro.co.uk/news/823913-briti...s-in-dubai
