Swine flu: World Cup supporters ' should have vaccination'
Quote:Experts warn that with the southern hemisphere due to begin its flu season, those who have not had the jab could be leaving themselves at risk.

Officials have changed the rules on the vaccination so that those travelling to the southern hemisphere can now get the injection from their GP.

Previously the jabs were given only to those in the groups thought most at risk.

These included NHS staff, pregant women, those with underlying health conditions and healthy children aged between six months and five years.

Experts have predicted that there could be a “third wave” of the pandemic in Britain this winter.

They point out that the last pandemic, in the late 1960s, was more serious during the second year of the outbreak than the first.

Sir Liam Donaldson, the Chief Medical Officer for England, said: “The next ‘flu season in the southern Hemisphere will be starting soon and the pandemic ‘flu virus is expected to return.

“Travellers should protect themselves by getting the vaccine well before they travel.

"Those attending the World Cup in South Africa in June should also take advantage of the protection the vaccine can offer.”

Everybody going to the World Cup, especially young people, would be well advised to have a dose of this vaccine. At this precise moment the World Health Organization is worried about the African subcontinent it looks like a potential hotspot.
