‘Bongbong’ warns of CIA meddling in polls
Ilocos Norte Rep. Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr. warned Monday of possible operations by the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) in the country during the May 10 elections, saying some of its operatives might disguise as legitimate foreign poll observers. He thus called on the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to toughen the accreditation procedures for foreign observers, especially those coming from the United States. “The Comelec should thoroughly examine the credentials and background of all foreign observers, particularly the Americans, to ensure that they are not CIA operatives,” Marcos said. Marcos claimed the CIA has a history of spying and interfering with countries where the US allegedly wants to maintain its influence and protect its interest like the Philippines. He underscored the need for Comelec Chairman Jose Melo to come up with guidelines on foreign observers so they may know their limitations and their duties in the upcoming elections. “Once we discover that there are foreign observers who are proven to be CIA members, we must immediately send them out of the country,” Marcos said. Marcos also warned that the policy of intervention by the US is noticeable during our presidential elections because the Americans want to make sure that their interests in the country are always protected.
