RE: New internet piracy law comes into effect in France
ACTA is the real threat, in conjunction with WIPO, the WTO, the WHO Codex Alimentatius all of this federal level conflict is simply smoke and mirrors diverting our attentions.
I have a firm belief that information should be free. We have gotten to where we are in large pat by standing on the shoulders of our ancestors. We should however be careful what we wish for. Limited patent law can drive innovation in a the free market capitalist model. Reasonable time limits should be set to encourage the innovators or competition will be stifled by those with the quickest means to capitalize on it. The scope is being limited to music and entertainment more often than not and specifically internet piracy. There are several fronts to consider, the internet is but one of them. The following are a few of the the more critical ones. - biological organisms including plants animals and the human genome - pharmaceuticals - energy innovation - computer software and source code - mechanical innovation - free speech using or citing derivative works, language or ideas If the goal is combat against corporatism and for freedom we need to keep our eye on the ball and consider the bigger picture. There are no others, there is only us. http://FastTadpole.com/ |
