RE: Help please
To avoid crashes in the future install a hard disk fan, it will keep your hard disk cooler and extend it's life span.
And of course, backup your files. |

RE: Help please
silva your drive is rarely "wiped clean" unless your IT guy is ubber paranoid and has far too much time on his hands.
You may not have lost the files. what you have lost is the file allocation table....... FAT32. ring a bell?? its the 32bit version of FAT (file allocation table) You will be using ntfs. a microsoft If your IT guy formatted your hard drive, all he has done is destroy the FAT. You can recreate this based on the data on your hard drive. With recovery programs you should be able to get the majority back and working. I suggest you find another hard drive to put the files onto though. DONT save any more files onto your computer. If you do, you are writing OVER this "lost" data. dont give up hope untill your hard drive has exploded.. |

RE: Help please
That computers long gone, but thanks anyway. Our office manager switched out a bunch of the PCs here.

RE: Help please
First of all, I'm really sorry to hear that and i know it sucks big time to lose everything at once !
My self i had to reinstall windows 7 like a week ago because i was having a blue screen and my laptop was unable to start, so i inserted the repair disc which i had made and it didn't help, then i inserted winodws 7 ultimate installation disc and it worked out, but i lost every thing !! Back to ur problem. I'm not sure that i understood exactly what had happened to u, but a friend of mine told me that he was not able to open his hard drive C !!! and it says that he should type the name correctly and chose a program to open it with!! I connected my pc remotely to his PC and i fixed his problem ![]() The symptom occurs because when autorun.vbs is created by trojan horse or virus. The virus normally loads autorun.inf file to root folder of all hard drive or USB drive, and then execute autorun.bat file which contains script to apply and merge autorun.reg into the registry, with possible change to the following registry key to ensure that virus is loaded when system starts: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon] Userinit=userinit.exe,autorun.exe Finally, autorun.bat will call wscript.exe to run autorun.vbs. When antivirus or security software detected the autorun.vbs file as infected, the file will be deleted or removed or quarantined. However, other files (autorun. and registry value still referring to autorun.vbs, and this document no longer exists, hence the error when users double click to open a drive folder. To correct and solve this error, follow this steps: Run Task Manager (Ctrl-Alt-Del or right click on Taskbar) Stop wscript.exe process if available by highlighting the process name and clicking End Process. Then terminate explorer.exe process. In Task Manager, click on File -> New Task (Run?). Type cmd?? (without quotes) into the Open text box and click OK. Type the following command one by one followed by hitting Enter key: del c:\autorun.* /f /s /q /a del d:\autorun.* /f /s /q /a del e:\autorun.* /f /s /q /a c, d, e each represents drive letters on Windows system. If there are more drives or partitions available, continue to command by altering to other drive letter. Note that you must also clean the autorun files from USB flash drive or portable hard disk as the external drive may also be infected. In Task Manager, click on File -> New Task (Run?). Type regedit (without quotes) into the Open text box and click OK. Navigate to the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon Check if the value name and value data for the key is correct (the value data of userint.exe include the path which may be different than C drive, which is also valid, note also the comma which is also needed): Userinit=C:\WINDOWS\system32\userinit.exe If the value is incorrect, modify it to the valid value data. I hope this information is helpful

RE: Help please
In these instances BACKUP is precious..
Here's a batch script I run everyday that works better and MUCH faster than any backup program short of a RAID system. Customize and use as you wish. Just change the file extension to .bat and be sure to change your source and destination paths. It saved me much time, grief and (DOS::xcopy) is far better than the copy paste method or using an always inferior program with overhead for such a simple task. At the risk of contradicting myself I haven't really followed drive ghosting software backups as of late (8+ years) what new in that arena? Also for DVD backups what's the best setup (win32) for burning ~5-10 DVDs with different source content all at once? ConCen has me constantly buying spindles. There are no others, there is only us. http://FastTadpole.com/ |
