His influence is in every aspect of popular music. He carried Hip-Hop on his back, he's the most sampled artist ever. One of the leaders in starting the funk era (many credit Sly Stone as "thee"Leader), Bootsy Collins got his start with James and George Clinton, leader of Parliment-Funkadelic took the body of James music philosophy and ran with it in P-Funk. This man was HUGE in music, the list would be too big list all those he influenced, but here's a short list of those that sampled him (of which many sampled him several times over).TLC, Brand Nubians, 2 Live Crew, Eric B. & Rakim, Madonna, Heavy D & the Boys, Big Daddy Kane, Notorious BIG, Method Man, Redman, Jeff Golub, Public Enemy, New Kids on the Block, Patrick Kelly, Alicia Keys, Queen Latifah, Nas, Kool Moe Dee, Soul II Soul, EPMD, Chubby Checker, Tina Turner, Blackstreet, MC Hammer, Ice-T, Sinead O' Connor, THE WHO, Buddy Guy, Bruce Willis, Jerry Garcia, Cypress Hill, Tom Jones, CHER, Vanilla Ice, Joss Stone, Etta James, Ice Cube, Tupar Shakur, A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, LL Cool J, Biz Markie, Otis Redding, Paul Revere & the Raiders, Quincy Jones, Isley Brothers, Stevie Wonder, Human League, Sublime, BESTIE BOYS, Puff Daddy, Faith Evans, Jazzy Jeff & Fresh Prince (Will Smith), C+C Music Factory, Los Lobos, Kriss Kross, and a shit load of others known and unknown! As fu*ked up as the Industry is today, I seriously doubt that there'll be another James.... RIP One reason the war against racism (and sexism) cannot be won is that once a group is admitted to the club of &being white,& or being allowed, in the case of sexism, to use &the flawed white male model,& it already has learned all too well how to play the role of being superior to those still remaining outside those exclusive clubs. The real problem is that the illicit rewards, both tangible and intangible, in a racist and/or sexist society are so enormous that there is hardly any incentive to do otherwise.& |

I think he was a wife beater and crack head among other things. He did make some great music though. "Papa don't take no mess" is probably my favorite song of his. Quite frankly I dont care what mistakes Mr Brown has made in his life. We should not judge, life is tough and long and everybody makes mistakes or sins. Even if i never met him, the vibe that he sent through his wonderfull music is POSITIVE!! He will live on forever in his music and will be greatly missed by his fans. Rest is in peace Mr Brown and Thank You!
