Show info:    Amsterdam Air Crash: Some of the world's most
tragic events. This edition investigates what happened when
a cargo flight crashed into a block of flats in Amsterdam in
1992.

Only a brief mention of the Israeli WMD on board and no mention of the 300 local residents could be suffering effects caused by the crash. It took 10 years and after a report published in the dutch newspaper NRC Handelsblad they got a parliamentary inquiry to get Israel's admission that the plane was carrying depleted uranium and chemicals used in the production of the deadly sarin nerve gas. Tests commissioned by a Dutch citizens group revealed traces of uranium at the crash site and abnormally high levels of uranium in the bodies of survivors. No warnings were given and rescue workers complained of a range of chronic illnesses which the parliamentary enquiry officially acknowledged was the direct result of toxic substances released as a result of the crash. El Al insisted that the plane carried "a regular commercial load." As late as April 22, 1998, Israeli Transport Minister Shaul Yahalom maintained that there were "no dangerous material on that plane. Israel has nothing to hide."
