Pat Sajak's View On The New Big Brother (from Wheel Of Fortune)
Quote:From Pat SaJack's (host of wheel of fortune) website http://www.patsajak.com/news.php?view=says

George Orwell’s 1984, the frightening tale of a totalitarian society led by Big Brother, was inaccurate in at least three major respects: first, the time frame was too early by about twenty years; second, Big Brother is not a product of totalitarianism, but of freedom; and third, he is not an agent of government. We are Big Brother. And, make no mistake: we are watching!

Thanks to cell phone cameras, email and Internet sights such as YouTube, we have become self-appointed spies keeping close watch on everything our neighbors do. It isn’t the government surreptitiously taking pictures in our public bathrooms and posting them; it’s our fellow citizens. It isn’t the government using unauthorized recordings of private events and streaming the videos around the world; it’s our fellow citizens. It isn’t our government making people reluctant to exercise their right of free speech; it’s our fellow citizens.

This Brave New World has come about without any deliberation or debate, and there is absolutely no recourse. If this were a government-generated issue, we could respond with our votes or even with a revolution. But against whom do we rise up? We have moved into a world where anyone can hide behind an anonymous screen name and spread the most vile untruth in a matter of seconds; where the wall of privacy is no match for the penetrating camera built into a stranger’s cell phone; and where lives, fortunes, careers and reputations can be destroyed with the click of a mouse.

It’s especially ironic that governments, once presumed to be the most likely progenitors of Big Brother, must now, like the rest of us, cower under the threat of his power.

We’re all performers in a giant Reality TV show--whether we asked to be in the cast or not. We have, almost without noticing it, lost our right to private conversations and private actions. Defenders of this new Big Brother speak of exposing hypocrisy and making people accountable for their words and actions. They talk of shining the light of truth into the darkest corners of the world. Their self-righteousness is breathtaking.

We should have been asking questions all along, and examining consequences, especially the unintended kind. Instead, we were enthralled by the ease of email and the cool, new technologies. We forgot that the temptation of governments to overreach and intrude is caused, in great measure, by their very ability to do so. We all have that ability now, and that means there is absolutely no place for Winston Smith to hide.

We are watching.

Don't ask me why im researching Mr. Sajak but... Let me know what you guys think this little statement he put up on his website really means, and who he is pointing the fingers at. To me, it sounds like the American people. Is he a puppet or merely seeking the truth?

On a off chance I'll post this here too.. Does anyone out there collect or record wheel of fortune shows? I would love to go over any archives anyone has out there. Part of a little project I'm doing trying to stitch some footage together for a video. If they are on VHS, thats fine I can xfer them myself if necessary; if they are in digital format, even better! Looking for higher resolution clips than those available on you tube / google video.

If you have a really large collection, maybe we can come to some sort of agreement after I explain what we're doing.

Also, if anyone knows of somebody who has a good voice impersonization of Pat Sajack and would like to work with me on some voice overs for a viral viral video project let me know as well. (no money for this gig yet)

Quote:Global Warming: What Are You Willing to Do?
from http://www.patsajak.com/news2.php?view=says&id=129

Proponents of the theory (they would say “fact”) of man-made global warming are in the middle of a full-court press. The media are filled with stories on the subject, public service announcements have hit the airwaves, and politicians are climbing on the bandwagon.

Now, I’m not a scientist—and I don’t even play one on TV—but there are some gaps in the logic of it all that make me skeptical. I’m not suggesting we’re not in a warm cycle, because that, at least, is somewhat quantifiable; but, as I argued in an earlier piece (“Is it Just Me, Or is it Warm in Here?”) the direct link between man and the warming is much more tenuous.

However, there’s another level on which I have trouble with those who are the true believers. Why aren’t they doing more to stop it? I don’t mean offering ideas for regulations to tell the rest of us what to do; I mean what are they doing personally. If I’m driving an SUV or living in a big house, they can accuse me of callous disregard for the problem, but at least the callousness is based on my non-belief. What about them? Why are they still driving that big car or living in that big house? In fact, why are they driving at all? Why haven’t they moved into a minimalist home within walking distance of their office? Talk about callous!

Imagine being absolutely certain we are the verge of a man-made catastrophe and not doing everything within your power to help reverse it. Anyone who truly believes it and still uses anything more than the lowest-wattage single bulb or drives one mile more than absolutely necessary is nothing short of a monster! A skeptic’s actions can be blamed on ignorance; a believer’s can only be chalked up to a shocking disregard for his children’s futures.

Take the case of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. Since 9/11, the Speaker (whoever he or she might be) has been provided with a private jet for security reasons. I happen to think that’s right and proper and prudent. However, she’s arguing for a larger jet which would accommodate family and others and would allow for non-stop travel to her California home. I think that’s probably reasonable, too. But wait a minute! How can a believer in man-made global warming be so utterly unconcerned about accelerating the coming catastrophe? Is the convenience of a non-stop flight more important than helping to prevent the rising seas from destroying coastal cities? Shouldn’t she be arguing against a private jet and perhaps closing down one of her homes or moving her family within a few blocks of her office? She, of course, is perfectly willing to champion regulation of others, but, again, I ask, what is she willing to do personally.

I can be accused of being blind; however, anyone who is convinced of the impending disaster and is not doing everything humanly possible to adjust his or her life to that “reality” is not only a callous human being, but the worst kind of hypocrite.
He sounds like a truth seeker to me. Comments?
