Hi all,

Read here a lot, post here very little. Anyway, I'm down in Los Angeles, and looking for a different kind of work. I do animation and design right now, and I'm fairly tired of it. I'd like to do something "that matters," so to speak. Work for an organization that's involved socially and politically. Ideally would love to do research and such for documentary films or programs. Something along the lines of what Alex Jones produces with his DVDs and radio would be cool. Basically using the skills I have to communicate something more than what type of fuel we should buy, or silly things for online games.

And I have no idea where to look. Does anyone here know of any places or people off-hand?

That'd be perfect, yeah. But if there was something cool that required low pay or pro-bono, I'd take a look at it for sure.

I suspect you need to keep working at what you do my friend. I know you dont want to hear this but you are not gonna find money for something like this. I used to do games tunes and sfx (skybox) and i know a few guys in the industry. Yes it sucks and is totally uncreative. I suggest you stick at it and get your rep up. if you want to do this i would suggest YOU become the instigator. Save your money m8. If you have a good rep then ppl will want to work with you. Make your own stuff, let it be like that. It may be a small addition to what we all are doing here but it matters.

I now work as a waiter cuz i got the gift of the gab. I use it fully on customers coming in. Thats how i do it. No need for music.

If you make a vid and need sound i will help you. I'm sure there are others here that would too. I know having a wage packet helps but you have got that already, dont throw that away. Be happy that you HAVE a job.

This is spare time stuff my friend. Anything made today or tomorrow is brand new and people will look for whats new. Make your case and watch its course. Get up at 8 and go to work in the knowledge that you are doing something. soz i couldnt give you names and places but nothings that simple.

Whats your style anyway? 3d? 2d? fmv?

I kinda figured as much, but I wanted to reach out just in case. I've had friends in the SFBAY work as designers at political non-profits, so I figured what the hell!

I do 2D animation, mainly character design, but I'm trying to branch into something else. Would love to work in documentary film or something similar. Yeah, I guess I'll just have to treat it as a hobby. I don't really "have" a job in that I've been working freelance for 6 years now. It ebbs and flows, and my patience (or lack thereof) doesn't quite jibe with a full-time/corporate job--I need stimulus.

Dont be afraid to get help on it tho.

You're freelance so that does help at least. You can give yourself the time. Approach the names you know. You gotta have a few with-it buddies out there come up with a premis and get ppl on board. all the luck to ya m8
