German daily raps Bush for not engaging in Iran dialogue

The radical leftist daily Neues Deutschland newspaper on Thursday called on US President George W. Bush to end his "martial threats" against Iran and engage in a fruitful dialogue with the Islamic republic.

"The Baker-Hamilton commission has shown ways how the US could act in the Middle East... This includes opening the dialogue with Iran. For that to happen, Bush must cease to vent out martial threats (against Iran)," the editorial of the Berlin-based paper said in part.

It added that Bush's "apocalyptic threats" were aimed at diverting from the fact that Washington needed to initiate a new Iran policy.

The daily stressed that while Iran is "cooperating with the International Atomic Anergy Agency and the Arab League and is urging a ban on weapons of mass destruction in the region, Israel stubbornly refuses" to heed Tehran's call.
