Arab League head stresses Iran's role in Persian Gulf, ME
The Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa has stressed Iran's significant role in the Middle East and Persian Gulf regions, it was reported on Wednesday.
He made the remarks speaking to reporters upon his return from Qatar where he attended on Monday the Summit of the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council (PGCC). The meeting was also attended by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad who was officially invited by the Qatari Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani. This was the first time that an Iranian president was invited to attend a PGCC meeting as observer. Commenting on President Ahmadinejad's presence in the PGCC summit, Amr Moussa said Iran is the major neighboring country of the PGCC member states and therefore its "participation in the summit is not a matter of surprise." As for Tehran's peaceful nuclear activities, the official said, "Why should we always mention Iran's peaceful nuclear program while leaving alone that of the Zionist regime." Any nuclear bid within the framework of the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) "is legal and acceptable," said the secretary. http://www2.irna.ir/en/news/viewne-17/0...50535113948.htm ~ Veritas Vos Liberabit ~ |
