cash is not good if the economy plummets and we get hyper inflation. There is the famous story of the post WWI German old lady who had to carry her savings in a basket to buy bread because it had devalued so much. The baker poured the money on the floor and took the basket as payment.

Probably not a true story but it explains hyper-inflation pretty well.

I am no economist but think of which countries will not be affected if america goes down (and drags 2/3 the worlds economies with it. I can think of IRAN or Venezuala, both have oil and do not export much to the US. Or essential products that will always be needed (noticed the price of grain has gone up recently).

It all depends on how big the collapse is. If the whole world goes to shit only dried food would be worthwhile investing in.

Its a very interesting topic and worthy of a thread of its own. As I said I am no expert on these matters.
