Domain to IP Address Conversion Tool
Is there a quick method or tool to go about converting IE or firefox bookmarks' domain to IP address to protect against a massive DNS failure? I heard this may be a potential problem for various reasons and can be enacted by TPTB on a recent Deadline Live broadcast so I'd like to get some insurance. I just want to avoid the toil (creating a URL extractor to CSV then making a ping script and saving the text to file) of re-inventing the wheel if there was a quick way to do this readily available.
Thanks in advance! There are no others, there is only us. http://FastTadpole.com/ |

Domain to IP Address Conversion Tool
I'm not sure that there's a fast way, as IP to name resolution on domain names changes all the time, meaning, people changes or rotate their ip address, or even run on a dynamically assigned one. There is a way for you to have sort of a redundant and passive solution, basically, instead of relying on just your upstream Net provider, you could use what I've used in the past, TreeWalk DNS (this is windows only last I checked), google it, download it, install, and try it out. You directly connect to the ROOT DNS'S for DOWNLOADING a static list of ip->domain names, and runs a local "named daemon" or process (in the ms world), in essence, you do your OWN name resolution on your end via 127.0.0.1 aka localhost. direct ip connections, I did this because my old provider (bellhell) would always have a slow or misconfigured server, or something of the sort, it doesn't happen anymore, so for me, no need for treewalk anymore.
Hope this helps. |
