The alchemy of light: Geometry and Optics in Late Renaissance Alchemical ... By Urszula Szulakowska
After reading a few pages one thing became clear to me and that is I do not know enough about Alchemy, I am starting to wrestle with a few alchemical concepts but its hard going, I believe the Alchemists were looking for some kind of divine agent, a non-mechanical action that God infuses into matter, this being the 'philosopher stone' or the 'secret fire'. Light is used by God to activate or reactivate lifeless matter, because there are 3 kingdoms being mineral, vegetable and animal, the Alchemist chose the mineral kingdom to investigate this light or secret fire for it was the simplest kingdom to study.
