UFO explodes over tropical island

There's no room for UFO's in their world view. Ghosts and spirits are very popular though. A curious thing: Vietnamese burn fake paper dollars for their relatives in the Death Kingdom. So they can buy stuff there and be comfortable. You can also draw pictures of fashionable motorbikes or cars (or buy ready-made pictures) on pieces of paper and then burn them so that your relatives may receive them. And drive around in style in the Death Kingdom traffic. I've never heard of a Vietnamese having been abducted by a UFO. Or even seen a UFO. But I've read some accounts of G.I's seeing UFO's during the VN war. Oh, it's in the VNese press today: Vietnam probes mystery UFO incident Its a mystery puzzling islanders in southern Vietnam: they heard an explosion, saw something burning in the sky, and found shards of metal debris but quite what it was, nobody knows. A plane? Possibly. An official in nearby Cambodia reported Tuesday that a small plane had crashed in its southern Kampot province, only to retract his comments later. But Cambodias civil aviation authority said that airlines denied missing any planes and there was no trace of any crash. Still, the reports from Phu Quoc Island situated in the southern Vietnamese province of Kien Giang and within sight of Kampot do point to something, according to military and provincial officials. The island districts military chief Colonel Nguyen Van Qui was quoted as saying yesterday that an unidentified flying object exploded at about 10 a.m. on May 27 over the northern part of Phu Quoc Island. When residents found metal debris, district authorities said they contacted airlines in Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand but did not receive immediate news of any missing aircraft by late Tuesday. We have informed the Ministry of Defense, Dinh Khoa Toan, deputy chairman of the islands Peoples Committee, said. We expect the ministry will send some experts to clarify whether the metal came from a crashed plane. We have collected several metal pieces in various parts of the island. Huynh Tan Hung, an official of the Peoples Committee of the islands Ganh Dau Commune, said local people had heard a series of noises, including a loud bang, just after 10 a.m. on Tuesday. We all saw something burning in the sky, north of Phu Quoc Island. The fire was in the sky near Cambodian territory. In our commune, we collected one piece of metal, measuring one meter by about 60 centimeters. A soldier on duty at the Military Command of Phu Quoc Island, identifying himself as Tuan, said they had received seven metal pieces that were over one meter long from local people. We have contacted responsible agencies and we are sure that no Vietnamese planes, civil or military, were flying there at that time, he said. We dont have sufficient facilities or experts here, so we cannot tell now whether these metal parts came from a plane. In Cambodia, Kampots deputy police chief In China said villagers reported hearing a loud explosion, but that all authorities had been able to find was a small piece of metal in the jungle near the coast. Keo Sivorn, chief of flight operations at Cambodias civil aviation body, said no plane had crashed. http://www.thanhniennews.com/society/?cati...mp;newsid=38889 |

UFO explodes over tropical island
VLADIVOSTOK, May 26 (RIA Novosti) - The Varyag, a Russian Slava-class missile cruiser dubbed 'the killer of aircraft carriers,' has started a series of live-firing exercises in the Pacific for the first time since a recent overhaul, a fleet spokesman said Monday.
Varyag, the flagship of the Russian Pacific Fleet, was commissioned in Russia's Pacific Fleet in 1989 and re-entered service in early 2008 following a major refit that lasted almost a year. "The Varyag's crew is scheduled to conduct a series of live firing drills against ground, surface, and air targets," said Captain 1st Rank Roman Martov. He said the exercise was aimed at checking the performance of all on-board weapons systems. "The cruiser is equipped with a powerful array of missile systems, torpedoes and artillery systems," Martov said, adding that NATO experts had dubbed Russian combat ships of this class "the killer of aircraft carriers," as it can carry 1,000kg of high-explosives, or a tactical nuclear warhead out to a range of 300 nautical miles. The Slava-class missile cruiser was designed as a surface strike ship with some anti-air and ASW capability. The sixteen SS-N-12 Sandbox nuclear-capable supersonic anti-ship missiles are mounted in four pairs on either side of the superstructure, giving the ship a distinctive appearance. In addition, the cruiser reportedly carries 64 SA-N-6 Grumble long-range surface-to-air missiles (SAM) and 40 SA-N-4 Gecko short-range SAMs. Two other ships of this class, the Moskva and Marshal Ustinov, are in service with Russia's Black Sea Fleet and Northern Fleet, respectively. http://en.rian.ru/russia/20080526/108442780.html |
