Airport 'boob' scanners on the way
Quote:Security scanners that visually remove the clothes of passengers are to be installed at US airports.

A random selection of travellers getting ready to board airplanes in Washington, New York, Los Angeles and other major cities will be shut in the glass booths while a three-dimensional image is made of their body beneath their clothes.

The booths close around the passenger and emit 'millimetre waves' that go through cloth to identify metal, plastics, ceramics, chemical materials and explosives, according to the Transport Safety Authority

The image is so detailed security screeners sitting in another room will be able to ogle passengers clearly visible sexual organs.

'People have no idea how graphic the images are,' Barry Steinhardt, director of the technology and liberty program at the American Civil Liberties Union, said.

To protect the passengers privacy -- until they walk out of the booth -- their face will be blurred TSA said.

Also to stop sexually charged security officers from printing themselves a copy of naked passengers for their own pleasure images will not be stored.

A TSA spokesman said: 'Once the transportation security officer has viewed the image and resolved anomalies, the image is erased from the screen permanently. The officer is unable to print, export, store or transmit the image.'

The scan is to replace the physical pat-downs currently widespread in airports.

Lara Uselding, a TSA spokeswoman, said passengers were not obliged to accept the new machines.

"The passengers can choose between the body imaging and the pat-down," she said.

Amsterdam's Schipol airport has already started using the scanners.

This is ridiculous. Do you know when this will be effective?

I've read on the drudge report 2008 website or perhaps it was david ickes or alex jones cannot remember I was on all three a couple of days ago, that there are some countries that are already doing this. The article also stated that reagan international airport is going to be using this service. If you refuse and you can, then you have to submitt to a pat down.

It also says that Los Angeles airport will be doing this, and ill be going to the LAX in about a week from now, so I guess I can expect to be asked.
