Manly Palmer Hall
(March 18, 1901 - August 29, 1990) was a Canadian-born author and mystic. He is perhaps most famous for his work The Secret Teachings of All Ages: An Encyclopedic Outline of Masonic, Hermetic, Qabbalistic and Rosicrucian Symbolical Philosophy, which is widely regarded as his magnum opus... In 1973 (47 years after writing The Secret Teachings of All Ages), Hall was recognized as a 33º Mason (the highest honor conferred by the Supreme Council of the Scottish Rite)... Manly P. I think you might be thinking of Edgar Cace? But you may be right.
Anyway, IMO Manly Hall was a bit of a nutter and personally I wouldn't advise anyone to take him too seriously! Someone here said that hes masonic degrees were just honorary too? Don't know 'bout that but I do believe that when they said he was masonrys greatest phillosopher after his funeral I think they were just being polite, he was certainly an expert on philosophy and had an impressive library but he was not what I would call a great philosopher, more like a rambling eccentric old dude. |

Quote:he was not what I would call a great philosopher, more like a rambling eccentric old dude. Well i guess takes on that differ quite a bit, :) I wouldn't title him a philosopher either, as i think he was mostly studying philosophy , making it accesible to "everyday" people , i would not think of Hall as much of a practical philosopher,. but i will give him due honor for having some original and inspiring conceptualisations of his own. There are some of his lectures in which his own thoughts are more at the surface, but mostly he'll explain concepts by the word/account of others which he digested thoroughly. Quote:more like a rambling eccentric old dude. Agreed, i have nothing against those. :D listening to Hall , eventhough it can get dull at times is usually entertaining and his manner of explaining "difficult concepts" i find genuinely insightfull. to add ; he had the spirit and drive to do what he did, not for money, not for recognition, not for any institution but his little PRS, but all for sake of the betterment of understanding, at least, that's how i figure. The many old and hard to find books he republished via PRS i am thankful for. Quote:I was getting one crack-pot confused with another Well, to each his own opinion , i wouldn't want to call him anything like a crackpot, sounds a bit disrespectful to me. i would've loved to have had Hall for a highschool teacher, and no,that does not mean i love all his work , or that i idolize the cat. peace' If Thine I that I spy with my own little I Doeth Offend thee ; Pluck It out. |

i wouldn't call him nuts. He was one of the few people allowed to teach some of what was considered to be esoteric (concealed knowledge) to the average person. Now, bare in mind that he still did not come right out and say the truth but definitely hinted at what is believed by those in Freemasonry. If what he says bothers you, then you will be really bothered to know that many of the world rulers believed the same things for over 100 years. He wasn't nuts, he was very calculated in the way he wrote so that you, if you had the ability, could understand the esoteric.

For those of you who see him as a teacher (resident aspiring masons), and those who see him as a crackpot (resident rationalists), here's some of his wisdom / ramblings. It's 2.5 gigs of I believe all of his audio lectures I've had for a while, but the torrent is still up.

Quote:that's only one half of the pack,.. the other is still available at dumpsites, or request and i'll up it.Yeah, I think I downloaded one of your torrents earlier to get the rest. Thanks. Although it hard to get through most of them since the presentation is incredibly dull and boring, If I can find a physical copy of TSTOAA, I'd rather read that first. There's a lot of hype and idol worship surrounding MPH, especially amongst wannabe masons and 'occultists' (no, I'm not saying you're one of them) is the only thing that's really turned me off thus far and prevented me for reading / listening to his stuff (other than the fact that I'm not fascinated by the 'occult' in the first place, again, as a clarification, I'm not saying you are;)). I do find those types somewhat annoying and irritating; they remind me of religious fundies and obsessive rationalists. shZ - Minimal Tech Session v2.3 Style: Minimal, Techno, Tech House, Progressive House Download link: Minimal Tech Sessions v2.3 shZ - Minimal Tech Session v1.3 / The Journey to Here Style: Minimal, Techno, Tech House, Breaks / Progressive House, Minimal Tech House Download link: Minimal Tech Sessions v1.3 / The Journey to Here shZ - Lucid Perceptions (A New Beggining) / Psy Eclipse Style: Trance, Progressive Trance/House, Breaks / Psy Trance, Goa Trance, Trance Download link: Lucid Perceptions (A New Beggining) / Psy Eclipse |

It is worth pointing out that Manley Hall is best known to Masons by two completely different books, The Lost Keys of Freemasonry and Freemasonry of the Ancient Egyptians. Unfortunately, when a Freemason reads them it is very obvious they are works about Theosophy not Freemasonry. He was a non-Mason writing about Freemasonry, 3 decades before he actually knew anything about it.
Manley, eventually became a Freemason some 30 years after he wrote these books and after experiencing Freemasonry first-hand he felt moved to include a new Foreword in the 10th edition of the "Lost Keys" admitting that he didn't really know anything about Freemasonry when he wrote it. As to "Secret Teachings" it was a book about loads of stuff only one Chapter was about Freemasonry and it was just as accurate as his earlier books. Mike what the New Advent Encyclopedia says - The name Lucifer originally denotes the planet Venus, emphasizing its brilliance. The Vulgate employs the word also for &the light of the morning& (Job 11:17), &the signs of the zodiac& (Job 38:32), and &the aurora& (Psalm 109:3). Metaphorically, the word is applied to the King of Babylon (Isaiah 14:12) as preeminent among the princes of his time; to the high priest Simon son of Onias (Ecclesiasticus 50:6), for his surpassing virtue, to the glory of heaven (Apocalypse 2:28), by reason of its excellency; finally to Jesus Christ himself (2 Peter 1:19; Apocalypse 22:16; the &Exultet& of Holy Saturday) the true light of our spiritual life. |
