Benn: Big money trumps democracy
Quote:Tony Benn, former UK Labor cabinet minister said in reference to the Democratic national convention that there is no democracy as long as there is corporate interest.

In an exclusive interview with Press Tv, Tony Benn also criticized presidential hopeful Barack Obama for his stance on Israel and stressed the power of the pro Israel lobby in the US.

However, Benn praised Obama's polices on the Iraqi withdrawal timetable and his promise to pursue a diplomatic path to resolve Iran's nuclear issue.

When questioned on an earlier remark by Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, saying that the Georgian war was to help the rival presidential aspirants in their quest for the White House and if there is any real difference between Obama and McCain on foreign policy, Benn said that it seems both candidates are catering to the same audience and using the fear factor as a show of strength in foreign policy matters.

Benn also warned that the current coalition between the UK and US against Russian appears akin to a declaration of war in the region, and if the people can read between the lines they should prevent this crises before it turns into another major war.
