Was Che Guevara Evil?
If someone pisses me off and I become enraged and hit them - this is evil, no ?
(sorry don't mean to change the "che" subject, somewhere here on the board was a proper "is there evil thread" but I'm on my way out the door and time is short) as for Che First off the question is loaded, IMO Che was not a nice person, nice people do not go around, killing and seeking power, yet I did not say that he was evil. The question should be - did his actions create positive or negative change ? Again tho, the answer to that question is still a matter of opinion and or point of view. I did say that he had qualities that were admirable, but I don't think of him as a hero. &Alice laughed, &There's no use trying,& she said: &one can't believe impossible things.& &I daresay you haven't had much practice,& said the Queen. &When I was your age I always did it for half-an-hour a day. Why, I've believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast.& - Lewis Carroll &Things are seldom as they seem ... Skim milk masquerades as cream.& - Gilbert and Sullivan (Pinafore) At NASA, it really is rocket science, and the decision makers really are rocket scientists. But a body of research that is getting more and more attention points to the ways that smart people working collectively can be dumber than the sum of their parts. .. Irwin Janis? &Groupthink:& is a mode of thinking that people engage in when they are deeply involved in a cohesive in-group, when the members' striving for unanimity override realistic appraisals ? It is the triumph of concurrence over good sense, and authority over expertise.& -John Schwartz & Matthew L. Wade |

Quote:as for Cheactually, i don't think Che was interested in power, at least political power. i get the impression it bored the pants off him, he wanted to be at the sharp end. i don't know if he liked killing but he was certainly clinical, and apparently emotionless about it. it just seems so trifling by comparison to the slaughter perpetrated in the name of capitalism. it's like, why ask about one pipsqueak non entity, whose influence was so close to zero as to be unmeasurable, when you've got governments and corporations, with enormous power slaughtering tens of thousands every day? misguided, distorted, whatever, Che fought for beliefs which were not guided by money. it seems the true mass murders of our world can think of little else. the significant problems we face can never be solved

Was Che Guevara Evil?
I just finished watching a bio-pic of the life of Ernest Mandel:
http://onebigtorrent.org/torrents/4818/Ern...-the-Revolution The section which covered the Cuban revolution and Che Guevara the man was very interesting, as was the whole documentary.. After watching it and doing some further reading I'm inclined to think that the story of Che beseeching Khruschev to nuke America might well be a stretch.. It seems far more likely that Che was ousted from Cuban public life by Castro after he had made his speech in Algeria deeply critical of the USSR and the dangers of bureaucratisation - it was around this time that Guevara had started to labour with the workers and decried any extra priviledges being awarded to officials. After Algeria he made only one more public appearance in Cuba and shortly after announced he was leaving. Looks like he upset the Russian CP and Castro decided he had to go - feasibly this would account for a story assassinating his character to appear which did indeed coincide with this exact point in time.. check it out. |
