Tribe Called Quest .. the last mainstreamed rap group I heard that (I thought) had a hint of cerebral activity but man I took a slice of their lyrics and did a 180 on my IMO.

Slice included some old faves I grew up to including Excursions (Highlights Segregation and disrespects the female) Award Tour (globalization based on formulaic consensus conformity by appropriating supercedence like a preacher on a pedestal propped up by bringing non-conformists down). Finally I revisited Electric Relaxation which is basically an objectified showcasing their aptitude for female seduction.

I still dig the beats weaved aptly with the lyrics but the reduxified interpertation of the core message conveyed taints the compilations that I once heard without hearing.


To end on a ++ note I recently heard and witnessed the jubilant culmination of a season's worth of hard work, cooperative spirit and dedication by my youngest son (10), McNathan, come to a pinnacle in a triumphant championship victory. An achievement arrived at in the realm of pure unadulterated respectful competition via the medium of sport; namely U12 Indoor Soccer.

An experience of sight, sound and the intangible sensory evocation shared by all who witnessed, contributed and participated. A hard won victory (no matter how moot, mundane and irrelevant in the grand scale of all things) appropriates its meaning according to the perceptual bubble it is applied to.

That bubble will persist and resonate within the hearts and minds. We'll take our bubbles and bank them, where and when we can get them. The uninhibited sound of the parents, coaches and the young players expressing triumph is a moment to be rightfully cherished and revisited as a genuinely and uniquely human experience.
