My favorite album when I was in high school. Still like to smoke a big bongload and listen to the entire thing in one sitting every once-in-a-while. All the Peter Gabriel / Genesis albums from "Nursery Cryme" to "Lamb" are friggin masterpieces. "Trick of the Tail," the first one with Phil Collins on vocals is also a complete masterpiece from first note to last, one of the greatest pieces of music in the last 40 years. People who haven't heard it will laugh: "Phil Collins? You gotta be kidding !" Yes, Phil Collins, before he started whoring his ass to commercial radio for a hundred million dollars (his estimated wealth before the idiot got married again and gave half to his wife a few years later). "Wind & Wuthering," the last Steve Hackett album is also excellent but a definite fall-off from the complete awesomeness of TOTTail. I must have listened to these albums hundreds of times in their entirety.

I think most of the new music being made today completely sucks so lately I've been listening a lot to more great stuff from the 1960s & 1970s:

Insect Trust: Hoboken Saturday Night - Crazy Psychedelic Band's second & last album Unique vibe, good players. They even got Elvin Jones and Bernard Purdie to play drums on some tracks. Here's some more info on them:

The Insect Trust - The Eyes Of A New York Woman from "Hoboken Saturday Night" (1970)

Piero Umiliani "La Ragazza Fuori Strada" -- Great Italian soundtrack - This guy was every bit as good as Ennio Morricone but worked on lesser known films.

Don Ellis' great "Soaring" album from 1973 :

Don Ellis (July 25, 1934 - December 17, 1978) was an American jazz trumpeter, drummer, composer and bandleader. He is best known for his extensive musical experimentation, particularly in the area of unusual time signatures. Later in his life he worked as a film composer, among other works contributing a score to 1971's The French Connection and 1973's The Seven-Ups.

Couldn't find any tracks online from "Soaring" so here's an earlier track from 1967:

Sandy Bull - Inventions for Guitar & Banjo - Not on CD, but well worth getting on vinyl - One of those masterpieces of sophisticated mellow music that seems to have been made by potheads for potheads eveywhere. Very ambient too. Put it on repeat for a few hours and your entire environment time warps back to the mid to late 1960s vibe when this was created.

The ultimate 'trip-out' music is Stockhausen played at the same time as the Sandy Bull album above. Click play on the Stockhausen below AND the Sandy Bull video above and have them BOTH play at the same time. What a pleasant freak-out it is, ha ha ! Icon_biggrin

RE: What are you currently listening to?
I'm listening to the track "Shall We Descend" from the new album of the same title from The Jelly jam. The tracks aren't up yet but here's the promo:

It's a great prog rock "super group" consisting of:

Ty Tabor (King's X) - guitars, vocals
John Myung (Dream Theater) - bass
Rod Morgenstein (Dixie Dregs & Winger) - drums

Gotta recommend this group to all prog rock lovers.... Icon_biggrin

Quote:Leprous - "Tall Poppy Syndrome"

Since the dawn of society, there have reigned a
number of commandments one must obey to attain
social stability and uniformity.

The commandments are:

You shall not think that you ARE something.
You shall not think that you are equal to US.
You shall not think that you are wiser than US.
You shall not fancy yourself as better than US.
You shall not think that you know more than US.
You shall not think that YOU are good at anything.
You shall not laugh at US.
You shall not think that anyone cares about YOU.
You shall not think that you can teach US anything.

These norms and values have been used to oppress
the free thinkers, making sure that nobody uses their
talent to distinguish themselves from their peers.

Finally got around to listening to the compilation unabridged; I'd throw up three thumbs if I had 'em too. Pure and raw music with scientifically/organically placed builds at just the right spots. Nice acoustics to provide pacing and a thematic background for sexual interaction, a Dungeons and Dragons session ... and [insert other compatible hobbies here].

I've been absent for a bit since I've had all sorts of higher priority duties to attend to but nice to see the tracker|forum still pumping. I've established a ~total news blockade since Mid December (first break that long I've had that long since I was 10 years old) as a personal psychological experiment.

In the meantime I felt a craving for external input since being alone with my own thoughts equates to anxious restless madness which I really should have controlled and channeled in retrospect but ultimately I resorting to the consumption of previously unwatched TV series in the form of That Mitchell and Webb Look, Doctor Who (2003) and Rescue Me.

All full of brilliance, insight, obfuscation, awesomeness and propaganda in their own right. h/t to ConCen for fortifying my BS filter.

Nonetheless I ended up with the Rescue Me and Doctor Who (which I sampled endless S3M/MOD renditions of in the mid-90s during my wannabe DJ phase) theme songs stuck looping in my mind; likely due to repetition. So by definition of the thread title this is where my disclosure of "What are you Currently Listening to?" falls flat face first into, at least for me, due to the anticipatory predictive intermittent cycled repetition they were projected into my gluttonous consumption of media.
