Tax havens: Super-rich 'hiding' at least $21tn
Quote:A global super-rich elite had at least $21 trillion (£13tn) hidden in secret tax havens by the end of 2010, according to a major study. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-18944097 The revolution is not an apple that falls when it is ripe. Pretty cool. Now, is there a way for us not super-rich to do the same? They have a good thing going, I want in!

RE: Tax havens: Super-rich 'hiding' at least $21tn
![]() The level of collusion required to continue this charade of organized corruption has got to be ramped up! We have to force the ultra rich to either live in these tax havens or pay massive taxes when entering/leaving our countries (based on net worth). They can’t have it both ways. This same kind of wealth tax should be applied to immediate family members too, children going to school in a non-tax haven should be taxed at the “family rate”. Only citizens of tax havens of course. I have heard estimates up to 300-500 billion of lost tax revenue due to the 20-30 trillion in offshore accounts. Under no circumstances should we be tolerating this kind of tax evasion. Tax reform is long overdue, a simplification of the tax laws would go a long way towards improving the efficiency of the systems – flat taxes without loopholes (read deductions), you took a loss…so sad, suck it up and learn from your mistake. It is one thing to have a food bank, but to bail the banking system out was one of the stupidest things on recent record. ![]() A flat tax (with some graduation at upper income level, say 250k-500k+) would save millions/billions in costs to governments to apply the tax laws. Likewise a lack of tax loop holes will put the reams of tax lawyers out of business (making all honest people happier in the process….) The outlawing of all tax havens and the incarceration of the beneficiaries of said illegal tax avoidance schemes (and the repossession of the stolen funds) could finance world hunger relief, AIDs research, free education, free healthcare….just about everything anyone with a conscience has been dreaming about having funding for in the last century, hell, we could have a manned Mars mission!
